Miyamoto has new MotionPlus game, Nintendo working on new hardware

Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto has revealed that he's working on a new game (or possibly games) that utilizes MotionPlus controls. Even juicier, he also confirmed that Nintendo is indeed working on new hardware.

Miyamoto made the above comments during a symposium at the 13th Annual Japan Media Arts Festival on Saturday. Details were largely left out, but he did clarify that the new MotionPlus title is different from the new Zelda game for Wii.

As for the hardware, Miyamoto's statements echoed those made by Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. Both men didn't say anything other than that, although there have been some rumors that Nintendo will be presenting their new machine at this year's GDC.

Here's my two cents.

Nintendo basically sold their souls over to the casual market during the past several years, and now that everyone and their grandma has a Wii, sales are starting to decline.

The problem is, will the casuals want to buy a new Nintendo hardware product? The answer is no, many households would see no reason to upgrade from their Wii. Another major problem is that most casual families that own a Wii do not buy Wii software, as they are satisfied by Wii sports.

I know Nintendo has made a ridiculous amount of money with the Wii, but I do hope they realize that, unlike apple, their fan base will not keep buying over priced shit.

I don't think Nintendo has really ever changed they way the have done business by releasing the Wii. They started in this business way before they was any notion of "casual" or "hardcore".

Gotta disagree with you there, Remember the Nintendo Seal Of Quality? They used to not allow subpar buggy shit games on their consoles, now that they're rolling in the money they'll give out dev licenses to any two man dev team. Don't believe me? Look up the developers credits for gems like "mini Desktop Racing" which didn't even have any mention of _testers_ in the credits.

They've changed alright, and it's called greed.

Not having to worry too much about killing the market. Remember the crash? The reason they were so strict was because they didn't want the same thing to happen again, with tons of games inundating the market. It had nothing to do with "casual" or "hardcore" and not even primarily about quality in my opinion. After all, how many crap games were released that had this Seal of Quality?

wonder if this new home console will have ds/gba support builtin seeing as nintendo has had the hardware for years to play ds titles on a tv eg. nintendo world nyc ds wall

they've had the technology yeah, but the gba is old news (they even removed the slot for the dsi in lieu of an sd card slot) and they couldn't find any practical use for the DS on a television yet so far, which I recall reading in an interview with reggie fils-aime a year or so ago. I'd keep an eye out for gba titles released for the dsi shop probably but not expect any ds on tv.

Is it just me, or whenever nintendo finishes a new console, doesnt seem to spark the next generation of consoles being made soon after nintendo makes theirs? I dont think this will happen this time around, but you never know, we could be looking at the start of the next generation.

I still don't see why they cant get past the whole motion control gimmick, assign a real controller (not the classic controller mind you) and start making some all around good games

Just my 2 cents so don't ask for a refund.

This is some things that I kind of expect Nintendo to include in their next console. This is a copy-paste from a topic of mine at my forum, with slight edits.

*Blu-ray disc games (Blu-Rays are slowly becoming the standard for movies these days. Games are the next step.)

*Up to 1080p resolution (in order to get the full viewing pleasure from the Blu-Ray discs. I don't see Nintendo dropping the standard A/V cables. Some people don't have HD televisions, so it would be good for the console to output 480i all the way up to 1080p.)

*Movie Streaming/Downloading/whatever ( I've already heard that the Wii is getting NetFlix, so I'm sure that the next console will as well.)

*DVD/Blu-Ray watching out of the box (no modding required. If they begin to use blu-ray discs for their games, then I'm sure they'll include this.)

*External Hard-drive compatible (for all your pictures, movies, downloaded games, etc)

*Keeps backward's compatibility with the Wii (naturally) and the Gamecube discs (which would require the memory card slots and controller plug-ins)

*Controllers will have Motion-Plus built-in(Assuming they expand on the Wii-Mote)

*Perhaps a Motion-Plus Nunchuk(Again, assuming they expand on the Wii-Mote)
