MadCatz: Most of our peripherals still work on PS3 FW 3.50 |
Listed in: PS3 Tags: firmware, MadCatz, peripherals, Sony

With the recently released firmware update 3.50, Sony locked out a number of third-party peripherals from working on the PS3. Peripheral manufacturer MadCatz, however, has assured gamers that while some of their products no longer work the majority of them are unaffected.
Here's the official statement from MadCatz:
With the exception of a small quantity of controllers sold before 2008, we believe that all Mad Catz products will continue to function as they did prior to the 3.50 Firmware update including high profile products such as our range of Street Fighter IV FightSticks and Wireless FightPads; our range of controllers and accessories for Call of Duty; our Cyborg F.L.Y. 9 Wireless FlightStick; our wired and wireless control pads; and our range of Rock Band accessories.
The 2008 wireless PS3 GamePad, the 2008 wired PS3 GamePad and the PS3 wireless MicroCon no longer work. If you're in need of a replacement device you can contact MadCatz's customer service department.

If you have a problem with that, then you should complain to the manufacturer of the controller for taking the cheap route to market.

And I'm sorry if you get mad with what about to say but it is everybody's fault that embraced the idea of online gaming the xbox/facebook/shooter/WOW/eWiner size syndrome or whatever you want to call it, the people that returned their console every time that it failed, the people that bought DLC content (why pay more for something that you already pay for) why defend a company that sold you a faulty product, if you go to jail do you think that they are going to bail you out because you did. if you do go jump in front of a bus you will do the human race a favor.
The future should be somebody buying a product (mobile/console etc etc) and have the option of putting anything you want inside (software) that is the day that I'm going to feel that the console is mine.
Is Sony going to pay for the peripherals that stopped working? that probably a big NO.
End of rant go ahead an do what i suspect you are going to do.

The problem is that big companies are - by definition - evil. They hate their customers. They WANT them to suffer. If they would profit from it somehow, they WOULD kill us all. Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft. All horrible, evil corporations. Do NOT support them!

No support for Nintendo we wouldn't have:
- Super Mario
- Zelda/Link
- and the other lovable franchises
As you mention evil companies, include Apple, too.
Overpriced as hell, Apple likes to empty their clients pockets a lot. lol
Sony releases good software as in, games, but firmware updates are to be declined.

I assume that disabling 3rd party peripherals is to block hacks (which are done through a 3rd party peripheral). Nice of them to once again put themselves first and who cares about all the people they screw over. This one doesn't affect me personally (I had a bad experience with a 3rd party memcard on ps1 and have never bought 3rd party since then), but I'm still pissed at the principle of it: Sony just made it so those people wasted their money (and wasted MadCatz money too, from the sounds of it--sounds like they're gonna' offer free or reduced price upgrades: cuz they, you know, support their customers--something Sony could really stand to learn from).
As has been pointed out in numerous prior discussions, the EULA does seem to give them the right to pull these kinds of stunts (I still think the other os issue was debatable: I wonder how that class action suit is going). Even assuming that the EULA is completely binding and legal, just because they have the right doesn't make it right. Giving your customers the bird is not good business. If you keep pissing off your customers, they're going to go somewhere else... or not, because it seems like gamers are suckers who not only buy anything (seriously, people actually paid for psn+), but they'll actively defend their favorite console maker no matter how idiotic they get. We have only ourselves to blame.
I like what you said, Dak, about products being more open. Sadly it looks like all electronics are moving away from that kind of thing. Maybe in about 10 years or so when it's gotten really bad (to the point where even the obsequious idiots notice that something is wrong), some startup company will make a killing selling electronics that *gasp* let you use them.

Thank god they finally hacked PS3, now we have homebrew on PS3 no more Sony lameshit of stupid firmware updates.

You're right of course, but we're not paying the price for what hackers did. We're paying the price for making the decision to deal with a company that could give a rat's patooti for its customers.
