Life in Vana'diel: Care And Feeding of Your Chocobo in Final Fantasy XI |
Ó

One of the most exciting new features in Final Fantasy XI is the ability to raise and train your own chocobo. Like all domestic animals, however, chocobo ownership is a responsibility. These birds, for all their grace and strength, require proper care and feeding in order to grow to maturity successfully.
It is true that chocobos hatch already covered with down and able to see. Within a day, they are even able to take their first steps. Nonetheless, they are weak and relatively defenseless. You will need to provide a warm bed, soft food and a lot of TLC. You should also have a name for the new chick already picked out - calling your chick by its name helps to create a stronger bond between you and your companion.
When it comes to feeding your chocobo, Gysahl Greens are its favorite, but they also enjoy root vegetables such as San d'Orian carrots. As chocobos are omnivorous, don't neglect protein. Regular servings of cupid worms will ensure the development of strong bones and muscles.
While spending "quality time" with your chocobo is important to the bonding process, don't neglect proper discipline. Unlike birds in the "real world," chocobos are remarkably intelligent, and will get into mischief - or may become spoiled and demanding - if not raised properly. While corporal punishment is never recommended, a good verbal scolding occasionally will keep your chocobo's behavior in line when they act out.
Chocobos also require exercise and recreation. Many chocobo owners like to race their birds against each other - an activity they enjoy by nature. This will help your chocobo build strength and endurance.
As far as training goes, chocobos require a wide variety of activities. Schedule your young chocobo for varied experiences, including digging for treasure, delivering messages and packages, rides in rugged terrain, and more. Such a training regimen will help your chocobo develop courage and quick wits in dangerous situations. Also remember that while many chocobos look alike, they are all unique individuals. Come up with a training program tailored to your chocobo's attributes and innate tendencies.
By following these guidelines, your character will have a fine companion who will serve him/her for a long time.

FFXI is awesome, played it for about a year, on and off, great experience. Left late last year cuz I got something came up in real life... If someone's on Sylph, look up for Farl/Busashi/Kletian... tell them rahxephone said hi :)
I quit playing this game about 2 years ago but this really makes me want to play again. I'm not though, I'll just wait for the next great MMO. Maybe Vangaurd, that game seems to have a lot of neat features.
