Left 4 Dead's The Sacrifice detailed, DLC coming this October |

The Sacrifice, the companion piece to the earlier released DLC pack The Passing, will reportedly be released by Valve for both Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 on October 5. This according to a PC Gamer interview with producer Chet Faliszek.
The October 5 date has been confirmed for the games' PC versions, and it's unclear at this point if it applies to the Xbox 360 versions as well. What has been confirmed for the Microsoft console is the price: 560 MS Points. PC and Mac gamers will get it for free. The comics, which will cover the canon version of what happens between The Sacrifice and The Passing, will be released starting in September.
While the gist of what The Sacrifice contains has already been covered, the developers also opened up about what else to expect in the pack. The Sacrifice will apparently be a three-map campaign but the sheer size of the maps will make it longer than The Passing.
“The finale’s a new kind of finale,” says Faliszek, “there’s three objectives you have to go and do.”
The addition of the No Mercy mode to Left 4 Dead 2 will also give players a chance to play as the original characters using some of the heavier weaponry found in the sequel, including a few of the M60 machineguns added by The Passing.
“You’re playing as the Left 4 Dead 1 characters in Left 4 Dead 1 maps, but you get melee weapons, the new weapons, the defib – all the stuff from Left 4 Dead 2. You get to see Zoe with a chainsaw, Zoe with an axe," explains Faliszek. It's a good thing too, as he also points out that without the new weaponry it ended up as "brutally hard".
Faliszek also had some good news for staunch Left 4 Dead players who have yet to move on to the sequel. Valve will still be releasing updates for the original game, including tweaks to make some of the original's weapons be more like those in the sequel.
“We’re going to update the Sniper Rifle to be more like the one in Left 4 Dead 2,” he says, “because people seem to like that one better.”
