inafuneCapcom's Keiji Inafune has been very vocal about his disappointment with the industry. In last year's TGS, he said Japan's gaming industry is "finished", and in TGS this year, he found the games to be "awful". This time, the man expresses his frustration with himself and the games that he's worked on.

In an interview with a Japanese news site, Inafune was asked about his work as the producer of Dead Rising 2. The interviewer noted that he seems to love his job. "It's the opposite," he replied. "I hate it! I want to retire early and take it easy."

That is the reason, he noted, that he's been working hard. He says he could easily opt to do some small bit on a game and receive a large salary, but he's not going to. "There are loads of creators like that," Inafune explains. "But I'm not like that. If things are difficult while they are doing it, they can become a leader and a creator."

The Mega Man creator seems to be particularly hard on himself. Making games isn't easy, and it doesn't seem like he's having a lot of fun in the process. After all, once you look at it from his point of view, it's work, not play.

i suppose this is a game producer's version of stressing about work. guess no matter how cool your job is, it's still a job.

Job's a job and love's love.

You can't join both together or it will torn apart.

The guy just stressed, he didn't need to announce this at all.

Bullshit Glenn - I aint no producer and I, for one, agree wholeheartedly. 99% of titles suck dead donkey-ass.

Guy should grow some balls. We're in economic bad times, our studio had to lay off a few artists and programmers, yet heres some rich developer complaining that he hates his job.

Boo bloody hoo. Not to worry. There are thousands out there qualified to do his job.

Your head would melt if you knew what studio I was Associative Producer for ;)

Basically take this guy out of his current position and strip away his money and fame, put him down to where the greasemonkeys are being fired from. Lets see how much he complains then.

I wish I could pretend I worked for a company I cant cite the name of. Then I could feel all cool and mysterious and such.

By the way, I work for Obsidian.

Its pretty boring, stressful work.

You can't be an executive; your spelling is atrocious!

And it's a great job. I liaise with our satellite studios. It's more about meetings with the producer and director, travelling, then acting as satellite producer. It means a lot of air miles (hence why I only bother with PSP news here).
But this is only my current role. I've been a producer, director, lead artist and supervisor. Before I worked for this studio I had one of those above roles at SCEJ but it's tough out there.

FWIW: If you do post on whitelisted sites you can't mention your current place of work.

Quoting aperson2:

because we all know that executives are phenomenal spellers and don't have a team of people telling what to say and how to say it...

This is how it works:

Whenever you get sign contracts with employers for media based jobs (games, TV, movies) you agree not to post on other websites. But in recent years these rules have been challenged so now you're given a list of sites you're not allowed to visit. Neogaf is always allowed but you're required to submit your username and they keep a close eye on you. QJ is not on this list. I know of at least 2 other high profile developers on this board.

Same thing happens if you work in any department for Apple which is just really strict.

But its up to you if you chose not to believe me. I'm earning £60k a year and I work with some other excellent people and my name is probably littered on your PS3 and PSP library ;).

Yes there are thousands qualified, but he's probably just stressed out nothing to worry about.

I remember reading you had friends or similar producing games for 3DS. You better not reveal who you work for or users might spam you infinitely.

At this point almost every non-Sony or MS exclusive studio has a 3DS dev kit. They're not that expensive and it's the next big thing (the hype train is full steam ahead). Nintendo are playing this very well.

No wonder he says that, Capcom is becoming famous for it's "nickel and dime" tactics and for rehashing their releases with more versions. What Inafune should do is find a new company that knows how to use his talent.

i respect keiji alot dude is a legend in the videogame community, but with this hes being a whiny bitch, just like hideo kojima, all they do is bitch and moan about how they hate theyre jobs and the higher-ups force them to work on projects they dont want to work on, both keiji and hideo r masters of their craft and im pretty sure if they actually stopped complaining and said "hey im bored as shit, give me complete creative control over something" they could actually acomplish something

Quite sad when the truth is obvious to a guy that makes the games themselves. All I can say is kudos to you Keiji for telling it how it is!

I can't understand why he would say what he said, but I can only imagine, because I have never worked for a video game company before. I can imagine how stressful it could be to make something by a certain deadline. I think everyone should know that. What I usually don't like to hear online is all the complaining people say. Most people complain a lot. I'm not lying. I read topics online almost everyday. I don't say anything because I know that most will just say I'm stupid with no brains. Well those people are just egotistical. They have their own opinions, but when you insult someone else it's making you both look bad.
Besides that I would not complain about what he believes or what opinions he says. Video games are just video games. I have realized that many people who get into a state of playing too much video games are usually lazy and get stressed out easily. I should know because I have done it and so have my friends.
I know that some who are going to read this; are going to put up their defensive wall and say that; "well, you can't say that about everyone else!" Well the truth is; I play video games a lot; or well I used to until I stopped playing so much a few months ago.
I realized its just for entertainment purposes. If you start to get angry at your game you are stressing too much and will take it out if someone bothers you.
I know that this has nothing to do with the topic, clam down people. What I am saying is that Keiji could be stressing out with making a great game that will be successful. Many developers are problably tied down to what they are doing. everybody has a different idea how a game should flow or how the story is told.
Many of us just play the games. We don't make them; so why should we complain when they are creating them to please us and earn money for themselves?

I see your point, and I agree. I was going to go on, but I thought it would just get wordy. I don't see many unique ideas for games; just the same type of genre over repeating itself.
I do like some of the series that you have mentioned: Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Soul Calibur, I played a little bit of Splinter Cell Conviction, God of War, and Heavy Rain.
I do see somethings that I don't like with the japanese RPGs; They are not coming over seas to America. My favorite is the Tales series. Why do they keep denying to port it over to Playstation 3 for Americans to play. The Xbox 360 is not really meant for JRPGs. It's more based towards Call of Duty shooters.
But yea that is my opinion. I'm not trying to sound angry or the complaining type, but just thinking out of my mind.
