Famed Japanese game designer Keita Takahashi, creator of the Katamari Damacy series and the recent quirky downloadable title Noby Noby Boy, has reportedly parted ways with Namco Bandai. A company representative confirmed Takahashi's resignation earlier today. His departure from doesn’t come as a great surprise as the outspoken developer previously expressed his disappointment with the current state of the gaming industry. Speaking in an interview with the Official PlayStation Magazine earlier this year, he said:
"At E3 I saw people putting on speeches but I thought the future seemed a bit dark. The 3D games didn't spark my interest. I think motion control's a bit old now. I don't think those games are the future. It all seemed a bit dull. It'd be good if we could go back to the PS2 era. Instead of spending lots of effort developing new technology, I think ideas are the most important things. I'm actually not thinking about a future in games. It's not that I'm not interested in them, but I want to try lots of different things."
In another interview posted last week by tech blog The Setup, Takahashi told the site:
"I make video games for the so-so company Namco Bandai Games Inc. I am so inefficient I only made four games in 11 years."
He then went on to add, "I'm participating in a project to re-design an old park in Nottingham, UK," that perhaps hints at his departure with the "so-so" company.

Interesting guy, and Katamari was a interesting game.
But not the end all be all.
If he had a few more hits under his belt I might feel more of a loss about it.
Best of luck to him.
