Japanese Gaming Company to Raise Funds For Java Earthquake Victims |

GaiaX, Japan-based publisher of online games such as KongKong Online and Tensei! Karakuri Bowling (a 2D MMO popular in Japan and Europe, but relatively unknown in the U.S.) is raising funds to help victims of last month's devastating earthquake on the island of Java. It will be doing this by means of micro-transactions from its latest release, StoneAge 2. The in-game item, known as the Kibou no Hane, or "Feather of Hope," will cost 100 GStone in the game's currency -about 106 yen (about .92 cents, US), and will give players a +10 charisma boost while making the casting of healing spells less draining. "The full amount of revenue from sales of the charity item will go to Save the Children Japan to assist the Java earthquake victims," says a company representative.
The "Feather of Hope" will be available to StoneAge players from 20 June through the end of July.
Perhaps U.S. based gaming publishers could follow suit and raise funds for the still-struggling victims of Katrina.
