Italian organization complains over Gran Turismo 5's Piazza del Campo kart track

An Italian organization has issued complaints regarding the Piazza del Campo-based kart track in Gran Turismo 5.

According to The Consortium for the Protection of the Palio, Sony does not have their permission to use the flags of the Contrade -- districts or wards in an Italian city -- in the track. Piazza del Campo is famous for the Palio di Sienna horse race which is held along the edges of the piazza.

Here's what Consortium CEO Anna Carli had to say in an interview with Corriere.it:

You can not use images of Contrade, in this case the flags, without authorization. Given the relevance of the game with no history and references to our party, in particular with the use of images of flags of the contrade, we would not authorize use.

The Consortium aims to resolve the situation by means of a diplomatic request to Sony to remove the offending items. If that doesn't happen, they plan to block the game's release until their request is granted.

why to enoy our best racing game devloper , but but if SONY GOT the track license i think that include all track materials including ( cheers , road , roid side , ... )

also they can sue sony id the do not sue TVs , Magazines , and many picturs on the net MAgs . good try but i think sony will keep money this time .

Yeah, seems like an attempt to get worldwide visibility or make money by sueing a well known giant company. Doesn't seem to me it'll bother Sony anyhow to remove those so important flags.

Anna eff you and your stupid flags, you should be honored that a game of this magnitude even considered putting them stupid effing flags in the first place, it would be great to see flags that say @#^k YOU. waving all around the track nice and clear for them to see!!!! dumb ass people complaining over a flag

At best, they could block the release in Italy, most likely the most they could do is block the release for sale in the specific city or provence that feels wronged by this issue. Internationally , its likely they are completely powerless to stop the sale and distribution of this game since it is highly unlikely they have copyrighted their icon in multiple nations.

Also, as mentioned before, when sony got permission to use the track, it automatically includes the layout of the track, as well as any adjectent scenery and all marketing or iconic representation on the track. They authorized the display of their icon on the track, at which point they gave up the right to complain it if were re-broadcast in any form, be it TV, home video, or in this case, a videogame. If they don't like being used with out giving their permission AGAIN, tough luck. They already gave up the right to exclusivity when used in this specific context.

Just change the flags to Polyphony Digital - The Real Driver Simulator, waving in the wind.
Only problem is Sony are most probably about to start making the Disc's for the release of this title or very soon they will be, this better not delay the launch to next year or something.
WE WILL ALL BE VERY PISSED OFF.

Why do people not want free advertisement? And why get your panties in knot. Like who really cares? What evil or wrong could come from this? If I worked at polieph0ny (Changed so I cannot be sued for pretending to be them, which I am not), I would reply with this statement: "Hello, we understand your issue. We will resolve it by giving all credit to you and your affiliation and company. This is legal because, it is media, that is being filmed of real items that should not have been placed in our sight. If you have any further regards, Go fuck yourselves. We're going to release the game with them, What will you do sue our billion dollar asses? Take the money. Sincerely GT guys

Just remove the flags... remove the whole track... remove all of Italy for all I care. Even that couldn't hurt this game.

After all this waiting they could probably release a GT5 text adventure and we'd still all be just relieved that it's finally out

doas guys could sue apple too why!!!?? , to us earth as a default wallpaper for iphone while they are located in there somewhere normaly , they will just say our flags are located there and we would not authorize this.
