2. ...and here's the front.

The PSP2 -- Sony's very much rumored and talked about refresh for the PSP. Devs are already saying they have kits, but Sony have so far not said anything straight. Sony have never been too great at keeping secrets, though, and it seems the PSP2 won't be an exception. Some grainy images of what is supposedly an early version of the PSP2 dev kit have shown up on the web.

The images come courtesy of gaming blog VG247, who say that it's an older model that has since been replaced by a dev kit closer to the PSP-1000 in form. The switch was reportedly made to counter the heating problems posed by the PSP Go-like design.

As you can see, the dev kit comes with a camera -- something that has been mentioned before in earlier rumors. There's another camera up front, as you can see in the next picture. There's also rear trackpad, presumably put there in place of a touch screen.

Just for not reading the article, when it comes out, you will have to use this model. As for the rest of us, who read the article, we will get whatever Sony releases that is closer to the PSP-1000.
Enjoy your Burning Fingers.

It's only a prototype since they didn't announce it. it will change hopefully before that

Why are people dissing its design? The article notes that it's already been changed to be more like the 1000.

Shaped like the original (real) psp, with two thumbsticks and a trackpad. Could be pretty cool... but not enough to convince me to give Sony another chance. I'll be passing on this unless something spectacular comes up to change my mind.

How come the article has been spread over 2 pages? Is it to get more advertising money, because I have adblocker installer.

That there is a very early prototype. Was very comfortable though.

I like it. It looks cool to me. I REALLY like the 2 thumbsticks. Not so sure about the trackpad though. I'd kinda like to see a touch screen on it though instead of a touchpad.

For those worried about comfort I hope an accessory comes out to add PS style controller handles. Similar to the one that came out for the PSP-1000. I think it was Datel that released it...

Regardless i'll probably buy one. Especially if they incorporate some form of touch screen because I think that would be a nice addition. I like the way it works out on my phone and I like my DS with the way the touchscreen is implemented from time to time. I know the touch screen if very unlikely especially since there is a touchpad but it would be a nice feature... IMO.

I like the Go design as well, though it does make my hands ache after a while (rubber grips on the edges of the unit would make it a lot more comfortable to hold over long periods).

I'm on the fence about the PSP2. If it's region locked I won't touch it as all the best games are from the US or Japan (the UK gets sod all in terms of support).

As ever, I'll wait and see what they roll out, but it'd be nice to have a choice of designs.

Guys, this is a PROTOTYPE!!!! Not the real thing. If you read the article this is the old one at that. "Still, VG247 alleges that it's the real deal, only the final product won't look like it due to the redesign brought about by heating problems." They made it look like the original psp design. Personally, I like the GO as it's small and VERY portable. Much more portable than the older versions.

I'm trying to figure out how that rear trackpad is gonna work in a game but it just can't possibly work well, i mean you got you thumbs and index fingers on the buttons and the three fingers left are pretty much useless for any kind of detailed control wrapped around the back and probably give a lot of finger cramp. I have almost no faith in Sony's ability to implement original ideas so i'll reserve judgement till then.

Fake. At least the grain is fake. Standard Photoshop filter. Real grain does not look like that. Why intentionally grain it? Obviously to make it harder to see that it is fake.

Or harder for Sony to spot any markers they might've left on the unit.

"back tracking" is a pretty neat idea when you think of it, you dont have a finger or stylus blocking your view and other obvious advantages. good thing they are leaving this prototype though, because it makes no sense not to have the "back tracking" right behind the screen. how would someone know where they are touching? they could use a cursor, i guess, which is kind of lame...i'm interested nonetheless
