Polyphony Digital is tracking Gran Turismo 5 for a November release. That's three months away. So, is the game finally finished? No, says boss Kazunori Yamauchi.

“GT5 is getting to where it will be finished shortly,” he tweeted recently. Yamauchi also noted that this extended development cycle is pretty much the norm for previous Gran Turismo releases, with development continuing until the eleventh hour.

It may be the norm for them, but it's sure to elicit at least a few groans from waiting PS3 gamers. Gran Turismo 5 will come out on November 2 in the US.

Final adjustments?

Please don't delay the release to 2011. We've waited too long for this and PSP's version which took long but came out last year.

Another delay is a scary though, but I don't think it'll happen. Maybe it's like 99.99% done and Yamauchi is just finishing up that 0.01% left. :)

nah, there won't be any delay. I've always said that Yamauchi-san has a "perfectionist" complex, so to his eyes this game will never be complete.

And what a disappointment the PSP version turned out to be.

Wait too long and soon nobody will be paying attention to care.

With third person view the game isn't enjoyable to play, but in first person, it's quite good.

I wish GT PSP was compatible with PS3.

Don't Panic!

Obviously it's not finished yet otherwise it would be released tomorrow.

What do you expect them to say? "Yeah GT5 is finished and ready to go but, despite it being the most anticipated PS3 game of all time, we're going to sit on it for 6 months"

A complete non-story.

seriously,

things dont get finished and released in 24 hrs

Devs arnt sure when theyre finished, so they give a date far into the future in which they should be finished before, this allows marketing to be done for that day.

Even if it was finished now they wouldn't always release now because november is the best time for release, but it sounds like they saying this just to lay the groundwork for another possible delay announcement.

Oh the pessimism !!

Why would they hold off releasing a finished game when they could get a few more months sales.

GT5 is going to make an absolute killing whenever it's released. Sony wouldn't delay a cash machine like that.

Kwaker clearly you have no real grasp on the mechanics of marketing.

i also work on software development and it's the same where i work. we say our release will be available on day X and we polish it until day -5 (keeping a few days to test again and again and again ...).
now that thay have a release date (remember that they never before fixed a date) they are stuck with it (mostly for financial reasons i would guest).

It's nothing to do with pessimism, it's a proven fact that potentially huge selling games sell even more when they release in november, and because it's so close to Christmas it will massively help Ps3 sales too because people are more likely to buy them together, if i was Sony this is the sensible thing to do because a few months more really doesn't matter and helps raise anticipation.

I think its all that contests fault, the winners are being placed on the ending credits as we speak. You know that takes awhile :P maybe even cause a delay. Just joking there.

Its actually a good thing they are working on it though, unlike some rushed titles i know of.

Perhaps this would have been released in the Spring, had Sony not insisted on the inclusion of 3D TV support and Move support, both of which could have been released as patches to the 6 or 7 PS3 owners outside Japan that care.
This game better be bloody great, or we'll all just shrug our shoulders and go back to Forza 3

Yeah but this isn't just a game it's also a technological showcase to show off what the Ps3 can do, just patching it up when features are more popular really isn't gonna help that is it? I mean i'm sure they still expecting this to be selling in 5 years so they don't want people who only play from disk without DLC to look and think how bad it is compared to the updates.
