It's easy to get all excited about an upcoming game, only to find out later on that it's all hype with no substance. This year is no exception, bringing some incredibly hyped titles with little or less rewards. As compiled by the folks at GameTrailers, this years award for the Most Disappointing Game of the Year goes to...

FFXIV is seriously the worst game Square has ever published. Ever. They fired the team who made it, shareholders sold the stock in the company, and it caused sqare to completely reconsider all their launch plans for the next year. It's so bad, they made the game subscription free until such a time that they believe the game is good now.

strange - The Force Unleashed is one of the few games i will replay after having beaten it.
I haven't tried TFU2 yet because i want the price to go down more, and/or another ultimate sith edition to come out.

i thought the orig. was good aswell. to bad they didnt drop the price on xbl dlc yet. treid the 1st & 2nd demo for the sequal didnt like like it

As much as anyone wants to find at least 1 single good thing about FFXIV there is literally nothing good about the game. Everything that is remotely fun has a giant failure or flaw to it.

I would be happy if they just scraped the game and refunded me the money I wasted on the collectors addition.

I don't care what you say, Lords of Shadow was a great game! I grew up in the 8 bit days and liked the early castlevanias as well.

they are right about ff13.

a very boring game. i feel like yelling "what were they thinking?!" every time i play it.

i think most disappointing games would be those that really turned out ugly after release. i am no hardcore gamer, though so i can't think of any particular examples.

Yeah, my vote goes to ff13 and ff14. I'd say they should just trash ff14 and start a new project. Besides, it's not revolutionizing and it's almost the same with other MMOs. I mean most MMORPGs are the same and others are free. Let's see who will get the next epic brilliant MMORPG game next year. I hope Guild Wars 2 when released won't be disappointing.

It is reviews like this that prevent games for making a sequel, I have played Metroid:M, and its not that disappointing the only disappointment was it is short, well and I understand because Nintendo pressured Team NINJA for the deadline, but all in all it is better than the early GAME cube series, I'm a Metroid Gammer and I have played all Metroid so far Other M, is not on my lowest chart, Final Fantasy is also nice, I was disappointed on the Dubbing, I prefer Japanese Subbed. You guys have so high expectations,. Why not just embrace the concept.
If you can't review well, Try to make your own game and let's see if yours doesn't come to the grown, or bottom pit!

i think the counter argument here is

this is their career, they have very large budgets and loads of experience

and that it was generally a disapointment

i dont know what it was like, ive never played FF and have no interest in rpg or fantasy games

I would place GT5 in place of Castlevania LoS..Game trailerse only complain was about the change on perspective and platform elements.. I love castlevania series..and even if is not the same as used to be s still great. On the other hand Polyphony with their unfinished product..their standard cars that don't allow cockpit view ( common..not asking for a high res cockpit..but at least a cockpit!!..)..the shadow problems.. etcetc is a serious Runner for disappointment.. Bought the game and I feel cheated..

I initially thought it was gonna be FFXIII, but I was surprised to find that FFXIV was worse than XIII. I haven't played the game but I have heard about how it sucks. Too bad that the 2 biggest disappointments are part of the same franchise. This makes me worry about how Versus XIII will turn out.

FF XIII does not deserve to be on this list. If you think the game looks great, has a great battle system and and interesting story, why do you nominate it for worst game of the year. FF XIV on the other hand deserves the title. I actually bought the game, but am waiting for SE to fix it before I'll play it.

Square is sucking hard since FFX... when they started with the SOAP opera style RPG... Damn you FFVIII.. the started all..

I haven't played most of the games on the list so I can't say much about it, but I have played Final Fantasy XIII and I do disagree with their disappointment. A number crunching game where you can't choose the leader? I don't think so. It's far from that. I mean, they can think that all they want, but we all know that the game is nothing like that.

Final Fantasy turned out to be a bit disappointing. It could have used a lot more testing time. But then again, FF 11 didn't start out so good either. By the time it came out for PS2 it was a great game. I've played it for at least 4 years. It takes time to make some things right. With time, I feel FF 14 will become a great game too with the help of the players.

You know FF13&14 getting such a critical hammering from people could actually end up being a good thing, because if the developers still give a crap about preserving the image of Final Fantasy and don't just bend over and take it from the shareholders everyday they might actually wake up and change the crappy direction it's heading in and remember why they were so good in the 90's.

Both Final Fantasy aren't meeting my expectations but you shoud at least get your facts right. FFXI isn't a 5 year old game. I started playing in 2004 and there was already one expansion out(Zilart).

Square Enix seems so completely lost in the 2010 gaming world. Both titles were average and FFXIV will only live on because of the FF fanbase and console port. Without that, the game would die like other failing MMOs in less than a year. Square Enix needs to show us something great next time (FFXIII Versus) because they will start to lose some of their numerous faithful fans.
