GameStop to have midnight launches for DLC |

GameStop has been making a killing on used game sales over the years. Now, developers and publishers are fighting back a bit thanks to the advent of downloadable content that bypass the physical retail market. GameStop's not about to let that cash cow just pass by, though, so they've been looking for ways to get in on the DLC market as well. Their latest idea? Midnight launches for DLC.
At the BMO Capital Markets 18th Annual Digital Entertainment Conference today, GameStop CEO J. Paul Raines told analysts that they plan to expand their midnight launch events to cover DLC releases in addition to new game launches. Yes, they want to ask gamers to line up for something that they can wait for in the comfort of their own homes. Brilliant!
If you're a huge fan of experiencing GameStop's up-selling strategies, you're in luck too. Executive chairman Daniel DeMatteo added during a Q&A portion that GameStop employees who ring up a used game sale will get a computer prompt to try and up-sell any DLC for the game being purchased.

Though in the long run, GameStop and all other retail stores are on the way down. Thanks to the Internet and its digital copies. A la Steam folks, full games on Xbox Marketplace and PS Store.
GameStop IS going to die, its just like the plague though, only a matter of time.

Physical format ftw!

It's thanks to retailers that sell online point cards and DLC in general that those people get to experience it at all.

Not worth the middle-of-the-night trip, if you ask me.
