Whether you love or hate the design of Sony's Next Generation Portable, Sony isn't exactly the only one you need to direct your appreciation (or ire) towards.

According to MotorStorm Apocalypse developer Evolution Studios, game developers also had a hand in shaping the successor to the PlayStation Portable.

Evolution studio director Matt Southern told NowGamer in an interview that instead of designing the handheld completely internally and letting devs just work with what Sony came up with, the development process for the NGP was more of a two-way street.

"We’ve all been looking at odd-looking devices with wires sticking out them since an early date, because with the commencement of research on NGP, Sony really changed its approach so that it was much more developer-driven," said Southern

That's good to hear. If it's easier to develop games for then we will definitely see a lot of good NGP games to come.

I hope the devs make great use of NGP's potential.

NGP on Sony's hand may be destined to fail, but I suppose they will use their heads this time cause if they loose, no profit will be made.

I still think they should've gone with a transflective LCD. Those things are amazing outdoors.

Unless one of those developers is Gameloft I see no reason for it to actually succeed against the DS and iOS.

iOS? you must be a fucking retard... the iOS is not dedicated to gaming, it's no even in the same market...

Way to make your argument there, dumbshit.

There are games on the iPad and iPhone and iPod Touch that are outselling anything on Sony's systems right now save for Monster Hunter.

If anything, the NGP will be about as "dedicated" to gaming as the iOS systems are.

Have fun playing with a touchpad instead of a physical controller/keyboard.

Played on iPhone/iPod and never liked it.

It has good graphics, but shit, good graphics don't make it a good game.

You do reliaze these iOS games only cost £0 - £10 so of course they will sell well. And all the games on the iOS are similar to small casual mini mobile games with better graphics from like 50 years ago with better graphics. The only game that actualy can be called a game on the iOS is Infnity Blade. Angry Bids is so overated, it's just like a game you saw years ago on miniclip.

A game's a game. Hell, even Mario could be considered casual by today's standards being a platformer.

Meanwhile, shops are selling more toilet rolls than retailers are selling cars. You can't compare £2.99 shovelware to the likes of Dead Space 2. It's stupid.

That's because between 2.99 shovelware and Dead Space 2 are games like Plants vs. Zombies and Angry Birds created by indie developers looking to compete with the big-name studios that make things like Dead Space 2.

But they're like "toilet rolls," right? So that shouldn't matter.

Oh, and someone who resorts to personal attacks is in no position to accuse someone of not constructing arguments well. Just sayin'.

ever since I seen what the NGP will look like I just want the say I think the analog sticks are in a difficult position. the right analog stick is almost right under the buttons which means it will be hard for me to rest my thumb on the system when playing on it.

I agree with the analogue stick points, they look a little like we're all gonna get aching thumbs.
On topic, I remember hearing something like this for the ps3 and ps2, and then usually a couple of years after their releases comes developers saying they're crap to work with. Too difficult to programme with.

Obviously those crappy dev kits and impossible to use Cell processors have always been a problem creating for Sony consoles, but with extra work you can get past those issues, but really the biggest problem is simply Sony itself, with their uncompetetive attitude, blaming everyone else and general arrogance. I just miss the good old days with Ps1@2 when they had to do little more than manufacture the consoles and do some advertising and other developers did all the work bringing games to the consoles.
