Forbes lists Gabe Newell as a name you need to know in 2011

He's not exactly going to be on the cover of Forbes magazine, and he certainly won't be standing next to Oprah and the Queen. His name won't be in shining lights, nor will he be in a different city every night, oh I---I swear. Okay, enough song-posting. But the reason for the Forbes reference is that they listed Valve managing director, Gabe Newell, as a name you should know in 2011, right up there with the most influential people and concepts of the year.

So what exactly has good ol' Gabe done to pick up a spot on that prestigious list? Certainly not for hating on the PS3. Besidess the company he manages is trying to warm up to the console. What he was able to accomplish is better said in numbers.

It's estimated that Steam controls 70% of its market's share, having registered over 30 million users last month. The company also experienced 200% sales growth over the past 12 months, and revenues that the magazine estimated to be at US$ 70 million back in 2005 and should be in the hundreds by now. Yeah, big numbers for the big guy.

Hating on a console? Cause those who hate a console are going to release a big sequel on the thing they hate.
