Final Fantasy XIV can't go to Xbox 360 because of its closed online system |

Microsoft and Square Enix may be in talks about bringing Final Fantasy XIV to the Xbox 360, but there's a reason that Square preferred to stay with the PS3 and PC up to this point. According to game director Hiromichi Tanaka, Microsoft wanted a closed environment for Xbox Live and that's the biggest reason why it couldn't work.
"The main reason why we couldn't go with Xbox 360 was the Xbox Live system," Tanaka told Eurogamer. "[Live is] different to the normal internet environment, so when we wanted to introduce this game in the same environment as Windows PC it had to be PS3, so that was our choice."
"Microsoft has a different point of view: they want to have a closed environment for Xbox Live. We're still talking to... We couldn't come to an agreement on Xbox Live," he added.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Yoichi Wada said that first and foremost, he'd like to see network structure that allowed third parties to "freely design different business schemes" - something that is not possible given Microsoft's policies on Xbox Live. While the game itself could run absolutely fine on the system, it should be deprived of a few online features should Final Fantasy XIV indeed go to the Xbox 360.

Please correct me.

what they mean is that MicroShaft charges you to use to connect your OWN console to your already payed ISP. Not only would you have to pay for live but also the FFXI subscription.
That's like Linksys or Netgear charging you to connect to the internet.

Basically, what this means, is simply that XBL doesnt allow cross platform connections.
So, it'd run fine, it'd play fine, but you'd be only playing with other XBL people. That's it. Thats the only difference.
As for the discs... same problem with the PC? Heyo. They arent going to waste the money printing it to BD, so... what? OMG CANT PLAY PC ONE CUZ IT HAS MULTIPLE DIS.... oh wait, you install it and use a single disc. So, die, in a fire, with your entire family. Please

I don't think that you were playing against/with other people on another console were you? No.
Anyways, I don't think that its so much that FF XIV won't "work" with crossplatform, its just that M$ wants more control over the game.

"MICROSOFT WANTS a closed environment"
My guess is that MS only wants xbox live players to play against live players.... Squeenix wants it to be the same as XI, but my guess is that MS wants time exclusive/exclusive content and that would interfere a bit if it were cross platform.

Again, the majority agrees with me. PCs rule!

However, let us see in a few years (2 or 3 tops) if new games run fine on it, due to developers lazyness, while the "puny" consoles will still have new games released pushing them to the limits and looking almost as good as new $2000 PCs.
This is why I gave up on PC gaming. My 7 year old rig still does everything I need except running recent games. So for that, I own a console. That, and still lots of PC games aren't suited to run on a LCD TV. For example, try running pc civilization on one, and compare to civilization revolution which is a pleasant experience to play on a sofa.
That's not to say I won't buy a new PC prepared for newest games. I will in the future, just don't feel the need to do it now, and my console has been good value for money in that aspect.
There's always advantages and disadvantages, on both system types, so they all rule in their own way.
