Final Fantasy XIII - the fastest-selling FF ever |

Here's one more thing for Vanille to be all happy about - she and her crew of l'Cie have not only made a killing in the UK, but in the US as well. That said, Final Fantasy XIII has become the fastest-selling title in its esteemed franchise.
Five days after its official March 9 launch day, Final Fantasy XIII sold over a million units in the US, making it the fastest-selling out of all the Final Fantasy games. Apparently, flashes of lightning have made their mark among squalls and clouds, even topping them all in the sales department.
One possible reason for this success is that it's the first time for the franchise to go multi-platform at launch, with Square Enix releasing the game for both the PS3 and Xbox 360.

i was hoping to be able to play with all characters and fight like final fantasy 12's game-play but this feels like the characters r moving but u can move its more like ur doing nothing especially since the graphics r great

i even think that XIII has one of the best turn-based battle systems ever invented.. just my two cents

Agreed, but the game set-up is horrible. Players are forced to fight battles after battles with short cutscence in between so it quickly became too repetitive.

We might see more Final Fantasy games in the future

They may sometimes make something similar, but they always change something in the formula, for better or for worse. Take a look at X and X-2, for instance, the combat system is not the same and it was a direct sequel. Also, take a look at their resistance in remaking FF 7.
They like to innovate, but sometimes not everything is perfect (for example, some linearity until chapter 12 in XIII, or the battle system of XII which I *really, really, really* hated but some people actually saw it as an improvement).
(ok, the exception is the remakes for DS, probably because DS is so popular in Japan, but I think it was because it would be a waste of fresh ideas with such weak hardware, so they just went along with remakes - DS owners: this is what I tell myself with some envy, so don't take it too seriously ;))

But I see your point two.
Why havnt the PSP gotten any remake with 3D graphics?

Is it because Final Fantasy games do not follow the same path as the other popular Final Fantasy games?
Developers that do not change the style of their games, and try to find games that customers like most. Square Enix should not stay with one kind of Final Fantasy game. They need to experiment to find out what does and does not appeal to customers.
(Sorry if this seems like an attack, but I see a lot of people say that Final Fantasy games are not "real" or "true" Final Fantasy games a lot. Square Enix is the only one that has the right to make these claims, and I just wanted to get that off my chest.)
zidane247: So because it tries something different it is the worst Final Fantasy game? This post proves my point exactly. You "fans" seem to think Square Enix should stay with the same model for all Final Fantasy games.

1: theres no free roaming (Not till chapter 10/11)
2: the battle system is hard for them. if you not using all 6 slots for battle styles, then yea its gonna be hard for you.
3:we want the same old, select every character's action with long ass menus, nothing new battle system! we can't handle that.
4:God forbid FF fans tried something more action based.
I'm not the biggest FF fan, but i love the series enough to have made me brought it.
Just because Final fantasy is slapped on the game box, does mean "YAY! repetitive menu selecting FUN!" geeze, i beat you didn't even play it long enough zidane, i'm also gonna bet you pirated the game. or maybe your playing it on the 360 =P those two could be real problems.
i love my ps3 ffXIII :3

the battle system, the stories and the sidequests were the things that made FF so great for me. Since 12 they've changed the battles too much and now there almost aren't any sidequests (and no cities to explore!!).
It's not what I want from a FF game =/ so this game has no special value anymore, it's just like any other RPG. I will get it, but not at full price.
and you can't blame someone for complaining about no free roaming :) linearity mostly is a minus for every game.

Plus there is no demo as far as I know.

And battle system is hard, probrably the hardest i have ever played in FF games, but i dont care, i like challenges =).

Still, before asserting that theory, I'd like to see some numbers comparing PS3 sales vs Xbox sales of FF XIII.
If PS3 sales are much superior than Xbox (which is easily pirateable), then I think there's some true in this, besides the PS3 version of this game having better graphics (that alone doesn't seem to me a good reason for someone already having a xbox to buy a PS3 along with FF XIII).

maybe. but it's not the best game ever made. that's just going too far :)

"Oh no! I can't stand around in a city for 60 hours and wander aimlessly for no reason at all!"
Its like when NCSoft nerfed Shadow Form. Everyone had to LEARN HOW TO PLAY.
Get over it and respect the effort of SE for what it is.

played and finished lunar silver star for the first time, on psp. and wow i couldnt put it down. till i finished the game.
maybe ill give ff13 another try and no playgame isnt too difficult, it just doesnt feel like an rpg too me.
theres an empty feeling about the gameplay. thats my personal opinion

With that in mind, it doesn't matter HOW it's executed. As long as it immerses me into a long story that drives hours of game. I don't know about you... but I've had it up over my head with japanese developers churning out one after another of the SAME gameplay. Typical emo teenager who grew up in an excluded town... dead parents... rebellious... has a potential love interest from child hood... world on brink of destruction... so he sets off on an adventure and... he just happens to be "the one" who can do.... Attack, Magic, Defend, Items... get the picture I'm trying to paint?
I like how SE attempts to break this mundane cycle of rehashes. Breath fresh gameplay into the beloved franchise to keep it from sinking into the "not another typical jrpg" slew of... JRPGs.

FF7 was too easy, you could level 5+ levels ahead and beat the storymode EZ.
FF13 stays hard until the end, with being beaten to red by the random monsters you've faced hours ago, FF13 is more challenging.
I like the new twist, it keeps the concentration to the game at all time, because turnbased is just > attack > attack > attack (while stuffing my face).
FF7 was a hit, but I can see why they change the game, and iam looking forwards to the next one!

So pretty much same milestones as the best FF, and looked at so horribly among fans. I admit it's not the best, nor my fav (belongs to FFIX) but it's still pretty good, and I FAR prefer it over 12 and 10-2
Good job Square on another success... now give me a chrono trigger remake already

Sir, would you be so kind as to repeat that in English, please? I seem to have developed "run-on syndrome" and "spelling-bee warts" whilst attempting to make sense of that pile of garbage. :(
I respect people's opinion... but only when they can least make it seem like they're trying to convey a reasonable argument.
