How long has it been since we last saw Oglops, Chocographs, and stage-performing kidnappers? The next run won't be for long - Zidane, Garnet, and their Trance-gifted crew are on their way back to mainstream, courtesy of the PlayStation Network.
Square Enix has made the confirmation - Final Fantasy IX will be put up on PSOne Classics, along with its three fellow PSOne veterans, VII, VIII, and Tactics. The announcement is for the Japanese PSN so far, but there's no indication that the other regions will be missing out.
Release date and other information still have not been revealed, so we'll just drop you a post as soon as they follow up.

yeea.. people really need to stop living in the past, FF13 is a great game. This is why many game companys are scared to do something better and actually use the team of highly skill Game designers.. shallow gamers that aren't willing to try newer and better things

i happen to love ff13, and i love graphics as much as you..i can provide you with an entire post that says so

So, now that 13 is out, I hope we can make another return to the Classic FF motif.

You know, it's funny how many of you Final Fantasy fans haven't even played Final Fantasy 1. Even if you have played it, you certainly haven't played all the way through.

What I meant was the overall tone of FF wasn't based around a futuristic society.

FF13 will be beaten too... this summer. too busy now. :(

When you buy a SEQUEL, you expect certain concepts to remain true to the source material. While FFXIII is great, I can't knock people for waxing nostalgic for familiar and gratifying game concepts of the past such as open world/town exploration, mini games, and an overall greater control of the game.
Or in one concise statement, FFXIII forces you down main street where as the original concept of the series let you explore more of the side roads.

FFXIII plays itself! There is a button called auto and it will play the game for you! There is nothing to FFXIII at all, it is easy and boring, and linear. It is by far the worst FF ever made, and it is aimed towards the casual bullcrap audience such as yourself.
Its not a step forward, its a step back. Just like autoaim.

Note how i didn't BASH people who love the old ff games, as a matter of fact i have played old FF games if you, did you not seee my post saying that FF9 was one of the games i finished? after playing 9 and 10 i just couldn't play 7, did for a little but it just looks way to horrible. if they did an HD remake of it, then i'll more then likely play it.
And the creators of FFXIII has said that the linear story line was necessary, more then likely for Verses XIII.. also sometime next year for FFXIII-2
people saying its the Worse, yea.. give him a PS1 game and leave him alone cause there is no pleasing people like that

I never knew what a amazing game this was until recently, and I can't wait to play it again.
I also would love to see FF15 back to it's roots as well.
I think I'll check eBay for a guide for this game right now.

I actually tried to play the last boss again a while back just to get the final cut scenes (wanted to reminisce), but the disk was scratched and I wasn't able to :(
Long live the PSone classics!!

Oh well, now I'm playing Chrono Cross, about half way through that as well. But I actually own that one.

they should stop the voice acting and go back to text (or let us have the japanese voices with subtitles)... the cheesey stuff just sounds way too weird if someone actually says it out loud.. (in english anyway)

I really tried to play this game a few times, but I could never keep at it past disk one.
Its kind of hard to put a finger on what I didn't like about this one so much. I dont think it was the cartoony characters or the setting, I liked other RPG's and with similar aesthetics just fine. But what ever it was must have carried over from them on because I've never been able to finish a game in the main series since this one.

Now I love 13 but all in all it is missing and I say missing a lot of things that make a Final Fantasy what it is. They were trying to trim the fat and thats fine but they took more off than need.
13s battle system should have let you switch party chars in battle like 12 and included some form of gambit or casting priorities for your classes. (like casting offensive buffs first and vice versus).
Removal of random encounters is welcome. Since the first FF I've never liked them and they always grew to aggravate me during exploration.
The world map issue is kind of touchy. I don't think they needed a world map just a few more open areas and the ability to back track earlier areas in the game.
Lack of Airship in any form is week. The should have at least had some form of airship for tradition. Even 10
The lack of towns is very very dumb and lack of any NPCs to at least get quests from (stone missions are not the same) is lame. Towns and NPCs in a rpg even a linear one can make the world feel empty.
As much as I like the game it's does feel empty and it's mostly a dungeon crawl than a open world adventure.
In Squares defense a lot of these things take time and money. Especially when things get bigger such as towns, enemies and bosses.
But at the same time I think square invested to much time and money on the pre-rendered cut scenes. I like them too but I would have been happier to see less of them and more real time world and towns.
Again I love the game but as a long time fan it does leave a lot to be desired. It's not like they removed one thing they removed many. Too many at that.

Your conclusion, and the way you said it, sounds precisely the same as how my sister's year 6 friends attempt to end their arguments "Oh, I Could explain it, but its a huuuuuuge waste of time", and that's why I say, yeah yeah whatever.

At least that's what It would be smart of Sony to do. But they haven't been making smart decisions lately, have they...

But back to the topic - It's great they're releasing these favorites for the older gamers via the PSN. But really now, considering the majority of people who played this game 9 years ago were still in high school, I highly doubt most of these same fans actually have 20-30 hours of their life to waste on a game they completed years ago. Also, considering that these games have been getting more & more easier since the release of these old games (Think BMW & all their fancy "Ooh look at me my car drives itself" gadgets) newer fans today would probably think WTF when they download these classics. They probably won't even bother playing because the graphics & sound isn't jaw-dropping like what they've been accustomed with today's games, as opposed to the people who were there when these games came out (remember those cgi videos... Damn! We used to look forward to it, like some kind of trophy or achievement!).
Knowing how Square-Enix works (Like Panzies), they'll probably come around with one of those "PSP-Exclusive" or NDS Remakes... Obviously not what any fan, new or old, would appreciate. We all would like to see these games polished up & filled with massive add-ons, but it'll take Will Smith & Jeff Goldblum to swat out the aliens again on independence day before Square-Enix is even be phased by the people's demand...
