FFXIV to run at 1080p for PC, not for PS3

Hiromichi Tanaka, producer of Final Fantasy XIV, has confirmed that the game will indeed be caught running at 1080p. That is, however, for the PC only.

So what of the PS3 version of the game? He says that it is locked to run at 720p on Sony's power console. "The PS3 version will be running in 720p in order to ensure performance remains high quality," he explained, "but the PC version can go up to 1080p if your machine is powerful enough as you pointed out. We also support multiple displays, so players can use two or three displays to show that game."

but taking in account that this is an MMO, with TONS of side quests, hundreds upon hundreds of hours of regular quests, probably over 100K people logged in at 1 time, and probably massive open worlds... 720p on a console sounds fantastic.

This just means that it wont look better than FFXIII, which was beautiful

Google "Final Fantasy 14 Benchmark"

Try seeing what kind of score you get with that - 720p will do just fine - the PC version is horrendously slow at whatever resolution you put it at.

Is it really that suprising that a computer can run at higher resolutions than the console version? MMO's are very prone to lag in situations where there are many characters and things going on at the screen, and at 1080p I would imagine it being unplayable at times on the PS3, while a computer can always be upgraded, and graphics can be adjusted for you hardware.
Obvious statement is obvious.

Did you ever play FFXI? The 360 and PC versions where the laggiest, while the PS2 rarely lagged, this is comming from some one who bought all three versions, all three collections, ultimate collections and has been playing since the game came out. As for the 720p, well with it was 1080p just so I can say that, but I play on a 20" TV that is 1080p capable, but at this size the difference is insignificant.

And your Shitbox doesn't. So sorry that you pay for a bunch of low quality overly expensive crap. We still have more than your console could even come close to deliver. Do you have 3D games? Nope. Can you have up to 2000 GB of space for your HD Movies, Games, Music, and Photos. Do you have free online voice chat, video chat, text chat, online play and fun exclusive games that aren't just First Person Shooters? A web browser? Blu-Tooth? Rechargeable controllers? The ability to use your consoles power to help find cures to disease? Kevin Butler?

Fans of this game are happy that they are getting another title, it's still HD, and it will still bring them joy. You have succeeded in nothing. Most games are only displayed at 720p anyway, this one wont make a difference, 1080p is perk that some games boast and others don't.

just like a ps3 fanboy, when losing a battle concerning a different topic. They always have to bring up the 360, which was not even part of the conversation. You think going off and talking about something else is going to win your battles?the topic was the playstaion move and the wii, so if you cant think of anything to defend the wiimote and numchuck clone, then you lost your arguement. Playing movies on consoles is crazy. That's how everyone burned up their PS2 optical drives - playing a 2 hour movie means the drive is working non stop for 2 hours. Playing a game means the drive is only working for about 30 secs every 10 mins or longer if you are on the same level...

Well, the 720p is still gonna look great and it's going to be stable. The PC version has the option of going the full 1080p but that's only because the PC can be upgraded and such to the point that it can handle this sort of thing as the cities and towns become more populated or if you want to make use of that 4x XFire or SLI system that you have. XD

A 4 year old console versus a modern PC...
Anyway.. PC has been running games in those high resolutions for the past 10 years at least. Diablo 2 ran at 1024x768 I believe. The old CRTs didn't really go any higher than that.

Is this newsworthy? I've always assumed the game wouldn't run at 1080p. In fact, I assume that for most games that are released for any format (except for PC where it's available for almost every recently released game).
