FFXIII showed good sales on Xbox 360 |
Listed in: PS3, Xbox 360 Tags: final fantasy xiii, Square Enix
The latest figures from the NPD Group reveal that Final Fantasy XIII has sold 1,322,000 units in the United States - no suprises there, given the strength of Square Enix and its Final Fantasy brand. What's interesting here is that despite the game being a PS3-exclusive in Japan, the North American Xbox 360 version still held its own against the competitor.
Of the 1,322,000 units sold, the PS3 accounts for 828,200, showing that a lot of players still love their FF on a PlayStation. The Xbox 360 version pulled in 493,900, which is 60% of what the PS3 version sold. It's likely that Square Enix would consider the Microsoft platform for another Final Fantasy, though the PlayStation name still commands the majority of the sales.
As it is, Final Fantasy XIV will not be released for the Xbox 360, and neither will the other two tales in the Fabula Nova Crystallis series - Versus XII is PS3-only and Agito XIII goes to the PSP. Furthermore, by the time a Final Fantasy XV comes along, it might be too far down the road for the Xbox 360's lifespan.
In any case, it will no longer be surprising to see that Final Fantasy will go to non-PlayStation platforms, given the strength the brand has shown on the Xbox 360.

I don't agree. It would have sold more but not twice as much.
1. Not everyone likes FFXIII.
2. People also have both systems by now and choose the better versions. Like me I chose Fallout 3 for 360 over the PS3 version because it had less glitches and somewhat better graphics.
3. People were still playing ME2.

it really is a shame some can't stand to see others enjoy the same game on a different system... like FF started on playstation or something.
if anyone remembers, the only reason that was given for FF7 (the first one for a ps console) not being on n64 was the insane amount of cartridges one would have needed...

This may not be releavent to the topic but when you do guys think the next xbox is gonna come out? I think earliest 2012 since microsoft are releasing natal at the end of this year and obviously MS need to generate sales of the 360 with Natal. Also when will the next PS3 be out, 2013?

So, I am not really sure why you mention the exclusivity of the japanese PS3 version and how it held it's own.
I couldn't find numbers on the entire month, but the first week sales in japan were 1.8 mill add 820K from PS3 in NA and that's 2.62 mil, compared to just under 500k on 360....that is not really holding your own.

You're incorrect. You haven't taken the only factor that matters into those numbers:
It was never released on Xbox 360 in Japan.
If you don't have the option, of course the only choice is going to sell higher.
So cut out the Japanese numbers and you'll have a fair representation.
The story in general is pretty bias. If you're doing a fair "sales-vs-sales" or "1v1", each side has to be evenly matched.

1.) 360 sells very little and by very little, I mean have been beaten by PS2 until recently.
2.) Most 360 owners bought it for a 360 exclusive at the time such as Tales of Vesperia which means they are hardcore gamers buying it for one game. Which means they most likely have a PS3.
3.)PS3 version has shown to be the superior one.
4.)If you own both consoles will you buy 3 disc inferior one or 1 disc superior one.
5.)Most people who bought Final Fantasy in North America would have probably done the same which means that those sales would probably reflect Xbox 360 only users who bought Final Fantasy XIII. Because no one is dumb enough except for a few to buy the inferior version. But this is America so I dunno.

What I was saying is compare North American numbers to North American numbers and see the results.
I don't see how I was trying to "kid" myself.

North American would only be a fair representation if both consoles had a similar userbase size.
The XBOX 360 does well in America, but anywhere else the PS3 is usually leading.
If you want a fair comparison, count the global numbers.

PS3 VERSION
Americas: 0.92mil
Others: 0.77mil
XBOX360 VERSION
Americas: 0.69mil
Others: 0.40mil
btw, I'm not denying the ps3 version is superior , because it clearly is.

This post is obviously Xbox360 biased. When reporting the figures sold you said that the xbox sales were 60% of the ps3 sales. An interesting figure although a complete useless one.
What would be more interesting is to find out what percentage of the total sales, the xbox 360 sales amounted to. And they amounted to a whopping 37%.
While that might justify going multiplatform for SE, the PS3 still outsold the 360 by a good margin.
Ty for crappy journalism.

Why don't you go play in a closet with some womens hosiery. That seems to be working out pretty well for ya.
You sound very similar to another little whiny girl on here, and *gasp* that douche nozzle just so happens to be online right now (as usual, every 45 minutes to 2 hours, trolling all of his lame posts over....and over again, begging for a nibble on his flamebait)
Die Alone, Kthxbi
