Factory-sealed Stadium Events surfaces on eBay |
Listed in: Wii, PS3, PSP, Nintendo DS, Xbox 360, PC Gaming Tags:
A mom in North Carolina suddenly found herself US$ 13,105 richer when the old NES and games set she sold on eBay happened to include an NTSC version of Stadium Events, the rarest game ever sold on the system. Collectors and followers of the rare game biz believed that only about 20 copies of the game remained in existence, and only one that's factory-sealed. Believe it or not, that one is now on eBay.

According to the seller, she bought her copy from "Richmond Gordmans in Overland Park, Kansas over two decades ago". She couldn't play it at the time without the Family Fun Fitness mat, which happened to be recalled when rights were purchased by Nintendo. Thinking she could return it at some point, she didn't open the package, and there lies the value for the collectors.
Having heard of the North Carolina mom's story, she put up her copy on eBay. If legit, then her copy is a hell lot more than the last copy auctioned. As of writing, the factory-sealed NTSC Stadium Events has now scored 51 bids, with the highest currently at US$ 17,100.

if legit, then this is one hell of a keeper

I wouldn't sell it, even if I had a copy of the game.
Now that this comes up, I think some fakers will try to make profit from this game, by making replica boxes and cartridges. But no replica is better than the original product.

besides, i think that an actual collector would be happier to have it than i would, and i would much rather have a seriously tricked out gaming rig for that money

If you do find it and it's in good shape, I bet you can get something from it. The copy the woman with the NES had was opened and she got $13,000!

Take note that consoles/games with box tend to get a better price than unboxed. I think everyone knows that this happens.
And one thing, even if its unboxed, make sure the cartidge works, is in good/great condition and its not broken any where.

Pretty crazy the amount of money spent on games and comics these days. But I guess if my life didn't suck I'd buy some non-necessities, too.

Wonder where people get the money to spend on a game like this, maybe it's Bill Gates, just joking.
