plugStill playing old EA Sports titles? The publisher is sending you a message: time to move on and play a new game (hopefully theirs). At least if you're playing online, that is. Starting February 2nd, 2010, online services for older games, including Madden 09 are to be taken down.

True, a lot of the games getting shuttered are inarguably old. But apparently, Madden 09 is SO last year. Yeah, Madden 2010 is out and all, but '09 ended less than a week ago. Be sure to check this list, 'cause if the game you're playing is on it, kiss your online play goodbye.

  • UEFA Champions League 07 (PC and Xbox 360)
  • Facebreaker (Xbox 360 and PS3)
  • Fantasy Football 09 (Xbox 360 and PS3)
  • FIFA 07 (PSP, PS2, PC)
  • Fight Night Round 3 (PS2)
  • Madden 08 (Wii)
  • Madden 08 (PC)
  • Madden 09 (Xbox1)

  • NBA 09 (Wii) - Europe only
  • NBA Street 2007 (Xbox 360 and PS3)
  • NCAA Football 08 (PS2)
  • NCAA Football 09 (PS2)
  • NASCAR 08 (PS2)
  • NASCAR 09 (PS2)
  • NASCAR 09 (Xbox 360 and PS3) - Europe Only

madden 09 was released in august 2008, so it IS getting a bit old.. but then, madden 10 is still fairly new, so maybe pulling the plug on 09 is a little early..

What ever happened to the good old days where you can play any game you want without a time limit, DLC purchases, or monthly fees ?! I can understand if the conpany was going out of business; however, this is EA we're talking about. There still active and loaded. Bunch of cheap b*****ds.

BTW, I don't like sports game; however, the reason i stated this in the first place is, what's to stop them from doing it to an original game titles as well ?! :(

When no one plays the games online, there's no point in keeping the servers up.

It's not like disabling the online server disables the whole game.

The only game on there that lots of people even play online anymore is Madden 09.

Everything else has few people playing it, so they should shut down the servers and move the resources to other games.

These people sound like idiots.

Why are they pulling the plug? Because there aren't very many people playing them? Then scale it back. There's no such thing as only ONE server serving all these people. Scale back each game to minimum resources. You could even save money by UPGRADING the hardware to even fewer resources. Hell, you could vitualize each instance and house ALL of them on one big ass machine housing a server for each one.

There is absolutely no reason to 100% kill Madden '09. That's piss poor service right there!

Either way, you get to play these games online for free! So they can pull the plug whenever they want. You can still play the game locally.

I wish MS would shut down the servers for its old games as well, the OG XBL interface is limiting XBL as a whole. Example can't have more than 100 friends on the Xbox 360 because Halo 2 and its original XBL interface only allows 100 friends.

Tho I do think it is a little early to pull the plug on Madden 09 for 360 and PS3. All the rest, f*ck em

# Well guess im not buying anymore EA gamesRploesser 2010-01-05 04:53
Thats BS so games are gonna have a 2 year life span now? what makes it even worse is that a vast majority of games made now days are designed around online play. cod:mw2 would be an ok game at best if not for the multipayer aspect. If they were to shut the servers down in 2011 for MW2 that game would be useless. I sure hope other companies don't follow suit and start doing this. I understand shutting down servers for old games but come on 2yrs? I really think they should keep the servers up for the lifespan of the console. they are probably doing this because they are cheap bastard and want to reuse those servers for new games instead of just building new servers. well no more ea for me. not that i buy alot of thier crap cause most of it is garbage. but now i wont be buying anything from them!!!

News post: (The publisher (EA) is sending you a message: time to move on and play a new game)

Thank God for Microsoft and other companies. It least they let people play old games whenever they want. What if Microsoft/Bungie was like EA, pulling the plug on Halo 3 so that you must buy Halo 3: ODST... Think about it, EA ONLY cares about marketing and power. They don't give a shit about customers.

# Madden 08 PS2 onlineGuest 2010-02-09 04:18
I can't connect to the server so I am guessing madden 08 online for ps2 will no longer work?
