Online play has definitely reshaped the way we do our gaming today. But while it's taken a big chunk of the gaming model pie, not everyone's on board still. For EA boss Frank Gibeau, however, to not go the way of online play today is tantamount to signing your death warrant.

"I volunteer you to speak with EA's studio heads, they'll tell you the same thing," said Gibeau in a recent interview with Develop. "They're very comfortable moving the discussion towards how we make connected gameplay - be it co-operative or multiplayer or online services - as opposed to fire-and-forget, packaged goods only, single-player, 25-hours-and you're out. I think that model is finished.

Online is where the innovation, and the action, is at."

However, while not everyone is jumping on board the online bandwagon, Gibeau says they're not keen on forcing developing studios to convert their ways. Rather, they'd like to do it by "inspiring" them to do it. He further explains: “It’s about collaboration – looking at being both critically acclaimed and commercially successful,” he said.

well, an online option now i guess every game should have.
otherwise you finish the game and... well, thats it, hardly you will play it again.
the online mode let you meet with more ppl that are a greater challenge than the cpu and more fun.
Yes, id say, if the game doesnt have online mode it must be really good for me to buy.
Though EA should focus more in making good games first.

i remember years ago EA said that they would add wii WFC enabled games to market yet several years pass & still no op or dlc(aside from RB)
