I don't understand: the ds has been out for how many years now? Why are people still buying new units?

Because owning one just isn't enough. lulz.

People buy it because they want it or want to give it to someone else.

That's exactly the problem. The DS has been out for many years. Over time electronics break, get damaged, get traded, get misplaced, upgrades are released...

Not surprising how close the main DS and main PSP sales are considering how many great games are out on both.
Next year is going to be so very interesting.

It shows that people never needed and don't want the PSP Go. Sony should have have spent the time working on PSP2 (if it is going to exist) to bring the release date closer. PSP is still a great console and PS2 as well.

It matters because it shows what's worth and what's not.

DSi is and PSP go isn't.

I don't even need Japan hardware sales because I had a PSPgo and was a pile of crap.

why is Pokemon so popular?

Sure I liked it when I was a child and the games aren't bad even to this day, but I wouldn't buy another one.. If anything I would only play the ones I got when I was a kid but I already gave them away.

It's popular because it's addictive as hell. I'm 24, played my first Pokemon game at 16 (Ruby) after dismissing it like you do. I had a GBA and craved an RPG so I bought a US import.

Haven't looked back. I now have Fire Red, Pearl, Platinum, Heart Gold - each one (even the "3rd" version) has around 50 hours gameplay minimum. And especially in the HG there is just so much to do. Overwhelmingly so at points.

You don't play them for the story like other RPGs. You play them for the insanely deep gameplay and collection quality of it.

Little children like game playing, and DS can do that and it is cheap. The cost of game playing with flashcart inserted is very low. :zzz
