DellShares of Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) rose last Tuesday as news hit that Dell will switch its loyalty from pricier Intel to AMD.

According to the DigiTimes, Dell may use as many as around 20 million AMD chips in its notebooks, desktop, and server product lines. This estimate is based on their sources in the Taiwanese notebook industry.

Dell has had highly publicized problems with its laptops as of late, and analysts say that this is a test to see if Dell will be able to make a comeback, especially in light of its disappointing earnings last quarter.

Last month, Dell announced that it is to lower prices. Will this price-slashing help redeem Dell? We'll update you as news comes in.

Yeah, Intel is just a little bit better than AMD if you just look at performance, but what about price/quality ratio?

I do like both AMD and Intel, and I'm about to buy a laptop, and the only thing I know for sure is that my laptop MUST be at least dual core+64 bit.

If it's been said once, it's been said a million times: AMD > Intel. Good move by Dell.
