What is "Cloudsurf"? No, it's definitely not a new peripheral for your consoles that will allow aerial surfing. It's actually the latest trademark filed by SCEJ, which suspiciously points another finger towards paid PSN subscriptions.

Trademarked on December 28, 2009, "Cloudsurf" was described to be for "game services" and "entertainment services" via the Internet. Included under its umbreall are: games, audio, video content, "electronic publications," radio, and TV.

So far, there's nothing in its fact sheet to indicate any groundbreaking feature that's gonna be exclusive to Cloudsurf, and the features it enlists are basically the same ones we're already currently enjoying on the PSN.

Then again, there's obviously more to it than meets the eye, so we'll just have to keep our eyes peeled for that. We'll be sure to keep you posted.

idk...at first i though it said cloudsmurf.... but it could be an exclusive service that will be similar to the psn except you pay to get whatever this offers or something sort of as if on xbox... say psn store is just the free membership and this thing is sort of the other memberships that you pay for other than paying for stuff you get of it and has exclusive stuff than the psn store would... idk thats just my theory of what it could be we'll just have to wait to find out

This is clearly a trademark for a Sony service where all of the movies, music and games are streamed from a server. This server contains the hardware and software to run everything, all you need is a web browser. Many are claiming it can be done on a 3Mbps connection.

If Sony does start up a paid service, this would be reason good enough to charge people. The idea is to charge a monthly fee to have access to everything on the server (premium titles may incur extra charges, but you would never pay again). Once your time is up or you stop the monthly payments, you can no longer access the free stuff, only what you paid for.

The idea behind this is that the receiving box (game console) would be far cheaper than any console before it because the bulk of the processing is done on a super computer server. That and you would never have to worry about running out of HDD space.

Think of it like a highly evolved cable television service where you watch, play and listen to whatever you want, when you want. Yes, there can and will be outages .... but cable tv is still a thriving market.

This will allow something similar to Netflix for Video Store content. That would be awesome! Touching on cloud computing, the market name actually IPTV, look it up on Wiki.

Whats more, sony can also have video games for costumers to play, a nice way to reintroduce ps2 games to those ps3 without backwards compatibility
