CapsLock Key Must DIE!!

CapsLockHow mANY TIMES HAS THIS HAppened to yOU? yOU'RE TYPing along, theN NOTICE suddenLy, you'VE GoT a bUNCh of cAPiTaLS oN tHE pAge wherE THeY SHOULdN't bE...

Or perhaps you can't access a web page or a file because that dAMnable thing keeps screwing up your "CaSe-SEnsitIVE" pASsworD?

We don't know about you, but Pierter Hintjens of Belgian software company iMatrix is mad as hell and  isn't gonna take it anymore. He has made it his holy crusade to remove the "CapsLock" key from keyboards all over the world. In his blog on Slashdot, he said: "Sure, there are more serious problems to solve but please, think of the children! How am I going to explain to my kids why some of the most valuable keyboard real estate is squatted by a large, useless key that above all you must not press!"

Hintjens has launched a new blog called cappsoff.blogspot.com and has gone so far as to start a CappsOff forum on Google. The forum has 300 members, and its growing.

It's true that the Caps Lock key can be a problem. Still, there are software solutions already available that can deactivate the key, as well as many custom keyboards on the market. Is Hintjens overreacting...? What do YoU thInK?

OK... sure it can be annoying somtimes.... maye it should be moved...idk but on my macbook the caps key lights up when on so i dont really have a problem...

Tthe annoying thing is when im typing and i bump caps when i go for shift or "A", but like i said it lights up and it is not that big of a problem....

I think it should just be moved to a less used part of the keyboard...

# IS THIS REALLY AN ISSUE?Guest 2006-08-17 13:29
Caps lock, F keys, the entire "num pad", page up, page down, scroll lock, pause, the right "windows" key, that weird right click menu key.. There are a lot of keys I don't use but it's not something I spend a lot of time thinking about. If there was a push for smaller keyboards in the mainstream then I could see this being an issue, but walk into any Best Buy and Circuit City and chances are slim you'll run across a mini-keyboard. However, you will find a lot of large Microsoft and Logitech keyboards containing useless media keys, built in fingerprint scanners, built in LCD screens and various other doodads not used for typing. On my desktop I use a Logitech NetPlay keyboard which is smaller then the keyboard on my Macbook, very confortable to use and marketed for the Playstation 2.. Go figure..

This is silly. I have no problem with this key. I use it often with no issues. One thing I can't stand is when someone disables num lock on the keyboard when I want to use it. I don't understand why someone would do that when I use the right number key section more often to increase speed. I start to attempt to input numbers really fast and then I get the stupid home or page up instead. I think I will start a crusade to end the ability to disable numbers lock. Let the battle of the caps lock vs num lock begin.

If someone has problems with noticing that caps-lock is on, maybe a doctor would help? -.-'

I woke up this morning to the sounds of birds chirping. Excited that I had another chance to please God by perfecting his world, I jumoed out of bed and immiediately began prowling my village for Caps Lock keys, but my mom got scared and she said 'You're movin with your auntie and uncle in Bel-Air!' I whistled for a cab and when it came near, the license plate said 'Fresh' and it had dice in the mirror, If anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought 'Nah, forget it - Yo, home to Bel-Air!' I pulled up to a house about seven or eight, I yelled to the cabbie 'Yo home, smell ya later!' Looked at my kingdom, I was finally there to sit on my throne as the prince of Bel-Air!

I am posting this to you in extreme agony. This isn't a stupid post trying to get attention, this is a serious cry for help. I hope you can help me.

I was trying to shave my genitals today, to make them a little more comfortable for summer. I had no razor, so I was using some titanium scissors. Needless to say, I missed and accidentally removed a sizable chunk from the head of my penis. I passed out at first, but I woke up an hour or so later, covered in blood. I was able to stop the bleeding...but I wanted to put it back on and hope it would all be better.... I used super glue. It's holdong on there, but theres still blood, and a really bad line around the chunk, and it hurts oh god so bad... I have no medical insurance so I can't go to the doctor, and I live by myself so I can't get anyone else to help.

I need someone who knows something about medical stuff. What can I do? I don't know, if I leave it on there with the glue will it heal itself back on? Help me please, it hurts a lot. I've already taken 4 extra strength tylenol and its not helping...

HOW ELSE ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO SCREAM AT SOMEONE OVER THE INTERNET?!?!

STFU AND LEARN HOW TO TYPE

AND IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO, YOU CAN JUST POP THE KEY OFF WITH A SCREWDRIVER

learn to type..

there is also a hardware soltion too. my capslock button (thinkpad R50e) has a 'step' on the right side, so between capslock and a, there is a dip. so if your finger goes too far left and hits that dip (lightly) caps will not be activated; however if its hit hard enough, it will bring enought of the button down to activate caps.
