Capcom Interactive president and COO Midoori Yuasa said last month that gamers are moving on from portable gaming consoles to smartphones like those powered by iOS and Android. To this end, they plan on adding extra emphasis on the mobile front for 2011, and it seems they're on the right track.

“A freemium business model can be extremely effective as illustrated by the success of Smurfs’ Village," she said in January. "However, the key is that the game has to be designed from day one as a freemium title. If you try and shoehorn in an alternate revenue model into an existing design, you end up with a muddled experience that users either ignore or hammer with user reviews.”
True enough, having over 10 million downloads doesn't necessarily mean that Capcom is making money given that the games are free to play. Still, that's over 10 million possible users that could be getting premium content, which cost more than the smaller iPhone games.
In addition, Capcom has also released a number of premium titles into the App Store, including those from their core franchises. Among them are Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Street Fighter. The publisher has yet to announce any new mobile releases for 2011, but we can definitely expect more on their way soon enough.
