The last Onimusha game came out more than four years ago. For the Dino Crisis franchise, it's been almost seven years since the last one was released. Capcom isn't quite ready to put them to rest, however. According to VP Christian Svensson, they're still thinking about what the future may hold for these two franchises.

"I don't know that internally there's, on the creative side, massive fire to say, 'Ah, I know have to fix that and reboot that and make that huge again,'" he told IGN. "For the time being I think it's in percolate mode, that is to say, it's not forgotten internally, there are discussions that go on, but I don't think anyone has sort has come up with the 'that's it' idea of how to get the game back up to 3 or 4 million units."

"You may see some things of the brand pop up in the future, I can't say what, but there are certainly discussions about it," he added.

There are still a few hurdles to overcome, however. Svensson explained that despite being ranked the 6th bestselling Capcom franchise to date, Onimusha games usually sell lower than the previous entry.

"When you look at the timing and sales trend of how Onimusha has gone each outing – I won't give you the exact numbers, but let's just say every outing subsequently has been about 60% of the prior - the brand doesn't right now have quite the resilience that you might think," he said. "While Onimusha 1 and Onimusha 2 are among our more successful titles, Onimusha 3 and Onimusha Dawn of Dreams, not so much."

A new Dino Crisis may have an even tougher time getting off the ground, as apparently both Capcom's creative and business sides aren't exactly burning to light that fire up again. Still, Svensson said that the series does come up in discussions from time to time. It's just that they have yet to come up with how to make the series competitive in the present gaming landscape.

"As much as I love Dino Crisis, I don't think pre-rendered backgrounds; tank-controlled dinos are going to sell to the level that's going to cover the budgets that it takes to make something competitive in that space," he said. "Someone internally may cook up an idea, but we haven't seen the fire from R&D yet and no one's come up with the idea yet."

Heh, Onimusha Tactics didn't even warrant a mention. I actually enjoyed that game though.

the first Onimusha was good but I can't say the same about dyno crysis. It was just a game trying to cash in the success of both RE series and the jurasic park films.

Oh my gawd, I really hope they do it large scale like Onimusha 2 but with Sam Akechi like in the 1st one, #3 was fun but the story wasn't as compelling and original as number one

Onimusha 1 was awesome!!! Loved the voices and the slowstyle gameplay was perfect! 2 was brilliant. I agree with Grim2783 with number 3.

4 was like "What the hell?", it fell SO far off the mark?

Do i want a reboot? Not so much. Onimusha must have Demons, gauntlet, different elemental swords, and be related to old warring Japan. Samanosuke was likeable too( But modern day France!? :o )

I would love to see a reboot of the first Dino Crisis.

The first DC was okay, the second was bad, and I heard that the third was atrocious.

I couldn't stay interested in onimusha.

It just seemed like so much repetitive hack N' slash as far as I could tell.

Not really holding my breath for either of these.

I got your solution for dino crisis. over the shoulder, 3rd person, 3ds, reboot of the original. Can you imagine the t-rex crashing through the window in 3d with improved graphics. XD
