activisionYes, Call of Duty: Black Ops now holds the biggest launch in entertainment history, surpassing its predecessor, Modern Warfare 2. That's for the first 24 hours. What about the next four days? As you might expect, they went on to sell more.

According to the latest Gfk Chart-track, the latest CoD topped the softwares sales chart comfortably in the UK. According to Activision, the game grossed US$ 650 million in its first five days of sale. Modern Warfare 2 had US$ 550 million. A very pleased Bobby Kotick pointed out that, "Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for two consecutive years across all forms of entertainment."

Activision isn't the only one benefitting from the release. Microsoft reportedly had 2.6 million Black Ops players on Xbox Live at launch day, logging in a total of 5.9 million hours of online play.

The game has been patched earlier, so you might want to check the patch notes, too.

Wow!!! Those are some impressive numbers. That's a crap load of bandwidth being used just for that one game.

Sales were impressive, sold a lot but that doesn't mean the game's actually good.

Square Enix's JPN ad of Black Ops awaken some interest into it, maybe I'll buy it in xmas.

I wonder how their sales would've fared had they not charged extortionate amounts of money for the game?
