Senator Valdir RauppA Brazilian senator is putting "offensive" videogames on the chopping block through a bill that spells imprisonment for those caught making, importing, or distrubuting such games in Brazil.

The bill, authored by Brazilian Senator Valdir Raupp, has already passed through the Education Commission of the Senate and will now go to vote in the Committee on Constitution and Justice.

Brazilian website UOL reports that Raupp's bill seeks to "curb the manufacture, distribution, importation, distribution, trading and custody, storage, the video games that affect the customs, traditions of the people, their worship, creeds, religions and symbols."

Raupp's bill sets a penalty of one to three years imprisonment for those caught breaking it.

not 'better', just different.
from the point of view of that guy, america don't value its culture as much as brazil does. the bill said "... the video games that affect the customs, traditions of the people, their worship, creeds, religions and symbols." if this bill serves as preserving brazil's cultures, etc.

even we americans don't like it much if someone/something from other culture messes with ours, right? it's almost as if changing american sports into something less american.

hmm yeah I will buy that one. Now get me my handcuffs.

PS: Stuff like "this is why america is better" are jokes to non Americans mind you, terror made an entire nation elect a COMPLETE idiot for 8 years so he could go to war and do his own business (so hmmm who is the idiot really?) impacting the video game industry as well with games like COD4 having the most blatant propaganda I have ever seen in ages. So really, before making such comments have a quick read about RESPECTING one's culture (like what the US did in the middle east)

Bush was an idiot who I did not vote for. Oh, look, I have the right to vote, I have a say in who leads the country.

Bush went to war basically sure, but I never supported what he was doing. Now, did he ever cross the line and start trying to ban things that were basically part of his peoples rights? No, not really.

You say "this is why America is better" is a joke to non- Americans? It's true though when you look at Brazil, Mexico, China, most of the Arab world, Russia and a lot of other countries. Now, it can be sort of funny to the developed world like the UK, Australia, Canada, and others, but in America you have to remember that in a lot of cases the average citizen will have more rights and freedoms.

The U.S has a rating called A.O.
This is the rating where nudity is allowed. There are few games and most of them are for the PC.

By no means have games with nudity been banned. Look up your info before posting.

As for Germany and Australia, yeah, they get plenty of banned games.

Well said, I sure as hell didn't vote for Bush. I voted for Gore. Sure there are better places then America. But their no place like it. We do have a lot of freedoms that many other places don't. I know people are always saying America this and America that. I bet a $100 most them have never stepped on our shores. I work a few blocks from the U.N. in New York and every foreigner I spoke to or help out at my job has always said this is a great country. Why? Because they came and utilized us to make them even better. We gave them the freedom they needed to profit and feed their family's. We have freedom of speech. Freedom of religion. Hell Though most crazies will tell you America is a christian country. This land was not truly funded for any religion. On another note before I run of the deep end. Maybe mister senator man played assassin creed two (awesome game!) and realized it denounced all religions :P

You are talking out your backside!

Every country has people that only want their culture to dominate.. America probably being around the top of that list and the vast majority of people in America are immigrants, infact aren't real americans almost extinct or something?

you are one of the most racist too (and as famous for racism as hitler is) so dont talk ridiculus
the only people that say/believe america is the best anything are "Americans", (to which I'll add is fair because most people believe their country is best. none of them really are)

anyway
isnt brazil in the americas.
The U.S started this games are bad thing in the first place
ffs san andreas was almost banned because of a joke sex scene that barely looked like sex

I cant be arsed to write more but

tl;dr you're wrong pal.

So alcohol was never banned in the US? Or that was a loooong time ago for you to "remember"? As for marijuana, studies have shown that moderate use is as harmful as tobacco so why haven't they made its use legal and kept the trading illegal like in some other developed countries as you call them (and possibly have no idea where they are)? You could say that some countries are not as developed as others but you can not deny that the US went through some really hard times before reaching this "freedom" as you call it (so you think Christianity prevailed without a drop of blood?)

There were talks of limiting the bandwidth the ISPs offer for domestic use when the retard was in office along with other right winged legislation that cared very little about people's rights. I remember a top gear special where clarkson was driving a purple car throuh the US with the word GAY written on it. Yes they were afraid of their lives and YES they got chased so you should be talking about the COASTLINES and not the stuff in the middle. So start talking about Allah there and wait to see what happens.

I am sure you can find right wing extremists inside and outside the parliament in every country so this is just a case of a politician voicing his opinion and nothing more.
It is good to feel proud about the country you live in but please tone down the arrorgance.

That is really sad. I hate my country when it say about games. This law will just make game here hard to grow, and, it'll really be difficult to have game developers and publishers here. We have a great tax on games, we don't need or want more laws to just make us stop play. Why he don't care about corruption or violence? I think that it's just an attemp to make people here don't see what is happening right now

What most people don't realize is that the world doesn't hat the citizens, they hate the american govt and all The BS it pulls all over the world. We are the police of the world when we can't even keep our own country in order, we let a little grey haired monkey (bush) go after his own vendetta in the name of terror. And the really sad thing is everyone bought it. if you sit back and look at things and think outside the box you can easily see how much of a big scam the american govt really is.
