When references to the PS3 were found in Mass Effect 2's source code, rumors about a PS3 port quickly flared up across the Internet. BioWare has quickly started wielding a huge hammer, however, crushing the port rumors on their official forums.

Prior to locking a thread discussing the rumor, BioWare community coordinator Chris Priestly had this to say:

The Unreal Engine is cross platform, hence the PS3 code. This was brought up back in Mass Effect 1 days as well. Mass Effect is for the PC and Xbox 360.

Too bad, PS3 owners. Hey, maybe they're just leaving the code in in case they decide to port the whole thing when the complete trilogy is out.

I wouldn't want to play ME2 on PS3 anyway. Not until they release ME1 first, of course. Maybe we'll see a three-pack eventually.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that one. Mass Effect 1 was published by Microsoft, and I would assume that they payed for exclusive publishing rights. Even if those rights end at some point, if I was them, I'd hold onto it as long as I could. It's just good business.

Wouldn't matter. Microsoft published Ninja Gaiden 2 and it's still on the PS3 just with a sub title. Mass Effect can be the same with some sort of sub title.

It would depend on the publishing and developer relationship and who owns the IP

Yeah Mass Effect had a bad combat system while ME2 fixed the combat system but made weapon and character customization very limited. I wish they made ME2 like ME but keep the combat system. Missions are also boring and short in ME2.

I sold my PS3 to get this and a 360. I'm glad I did it.

Nice one, you sold your PS3 to get one of the only decent games on 360, therefore missing out on all the great PS3 exclusives coming out and out at the moment.
I got Mass Effect on PC - I WIN!

PS3 is extremely overrated. The 360 sells more consoles for a reason, better gaming machine.

PS3 may be overrated (if it was overrated, why don't many people have it yet?) but samjw point was that PS3 has better exclusives than 360. 360 has exclusives too but the thing is that usually PC would get them anyway. Just be happy for what you got and don't care about what someone else has.

They found PS3 references in the Bioshock code as well, and it was denied by 2K at the time. Then look what happened?
Also, there is no explicit statement by Chris Priestly that "there will be no Mass Effect 2 on PS3", so they're still dodging the rumour.

Still, if you want to play ME2 so bad, just go out and buy a 360 or get it on PC!

However if, for whatever reason you choose not to, then I guarantee it will eventually be on PS3 before too long. It just makes business sense for 2K to expand their horizons by going multiplatform.

Besides the fact that its predecessor was published by micro$oft right ?

# wait...what?Guest 2010-02-03 21:55
Why does the title of the article state that there is no mass effect 2 for the ps3? The quote clearly says "Mass Effect is for the pc and xbox 360." It doesn't say Mass Effect 2. Sooo technically they did not deny it :P

isn't the PC and 360 very similar in programming design (with the ps3 being totally different/difficult). I don't see the need for such a 'cross-platform' engine when they're already similar.

The Unreal Engine was used most likely for it's easy programming interface and texture loading. The cross platform area is one that is just a bonus. Indeed, if BioWare wants to develop this game fore the PS3 it is always a possibility and just requires a recompile with PS3 compatibility and some minor fixes. They did release Dragon Age: Origins for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC did they not?

why would HE DENY IT when other people at Bioware avoided the question when asked? he's probably only saying it to shush the ME2 community down.
