Atlus USA: Merger won't affect anything we do

If you're like me, the news about Atlus getting dissolved and merging with mobile content provider Index scared you a bit. We apparently don;t have to worry, though, as the folks from Atlus USA have assured fans that the merger won't affect them and what they do.

"Don’t worry, guys. This is just some corporate organizational maneuvering and won’t affect anything we do," says a post made by site administrator Iznaghi on the official Atlus USA forums. Izanaghi also noted that the probability of Atlus Japan getting affected is "highly unlikely".

"Atlus is not becoming a mobile games company," the admin continued in another post. "This is purely a corporate maneuvering so that Index, which is a mobile games company, has easier access to Atlus IPs. That's all."

I'm still not sure about that. A few years back one of our publishers, with a portfolio full of brilliant games just ready for release, were bought out by a company in China. Everything seemed okay but 3 months later they had their budget sliced in half and had to remove so many employees and projects.

Our studio was hit by that and we ended up pressing charges against the parent company due to them cancelling our contract.

I'm not going to feel happyjolly about this until Atlus' current games that I want are safe in my library.

While that is a valid concern, we also have to remember that Bethesda, iD Software and Bioware are no longer truly independent, yet still manage to churn out some of the best games money can buy these days. Heck, I've yet to even really see any changes in how Marvel does things even though they've been purchased by Disney for quite some time now. Atlus has done amazingly well for themselves, and it would just be a bad business decision to fix what isn't broken, especially considering how many other companies are struggling to simply stay afloat.

Well, other than flooding the market with too many redundant confusingly similar titles, gimmicky alternate covers, and whoring out any and every franchise they can to brett ratner and his ilk.

But they might have done that anyway.

And they haven't been completely bowdlerized which is impressive since this is the first I've heard about the disney purchase.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure thats not how a takeover/merger works.

They ALLWAYS say that nothing will change.

Until the deal is done.

Until there is no more reason to even bother to be coy about it.

Its happened to me before at a job, and we've all either heard the same story or experienced it.

Anybody remember TechTV?

But hopefully its just for corporate/financial support, like when eidos bought looking glass.
Oh fuck, wait a minute!

BTW: Isn't Atlus USA just a localizing branch for games from Atlus Japan?

They're not really a developer house right?

If thats the case the statement doesn't really mean shit.

Yeah, nothing will change about you translating japanese into english.
