Two years ago, Funcom decided to start giving away its flagship MMORPG and eliminate the monthly fee. Yesterday, Funcom decided to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Anarchy Online by henceforth making all four expansion packs free and gratis. In addition, Funcom will be hosting in-game celebrations and events. "The continued success of the free and ultimate sci-fi MMORPG is a
testament to how an online game can be honed and improved on an ongoing
basis," said Funcom CEO Trond Arne Aas.Gamers who upgrade to one or more of the expansion packs will still be charged a monthly subscription fee of $14.95 USD. Players can save nearly 50% by paying for a year in advance ($95.40 vs. $179.40).
Anarchy Online is a science-fiction themed MMORPG, taking place on the planet of Rubi-Ka, where human colonists are trying to maintain a community without getting drawn into the planet's factional and political conflicts.
