Bizarre Creations, the studio behind Project Gotham, Blur, Geometry Wars and the recently released James Bond 007: Blood Stone, is on the verge of closing down its doors for good.

Activision has issued a recommendation to close the studio today as plans to sell the Liverpool-based group didn't materialize after their 90 day consultation period.

Coddy Johnson, Activision Worldwide Studios’ chief operating officer, said the publisher had “looked at all options and explored a lot of leads – pretty much anyone you can imagine in the industry, but unfortunately, so far we’ve not been able to find any interested parties. So we’ve made as a last resort, a recommendation to the team for closure, before recommending to close the group."

“I want to be clear, our first choice was to try and keep this group together and find a buyer for the studio. This decision comes after a few months of exhausted examination of a number of different options across the board.”

He went on to add: “We of course care about this team. We’re offering the studio as many resources as possible, including counselling, external placement services and external career fairs.”

Activision's decision to close down the studio came after disappointing sales of its key project, Blur. The publisher said at the time that, “although we made a substantial investment in creating a new IP, Blur, it did not find a commercial audience.”

The staff at Bizarre Creations have indicated that they will accept the recommendation but the closure will leave around 200 members of the studio on the unemployment list.

i found blur to be better than pgr or split/sec. but considering it was given coupon markdown near the end of 1st month of sales & its online play is isnt as full most of time(because it didnt have any moderation) it isnt a surprize

Its all microsofts fault they took away the rights to PGR from bizarre creations, resulting in them bringing out that crappy blur, MS screwed them over if they had never taken the PGR rights we would have a nice PGR5 and Bizarre would of made a ton on it

I recommend Activisions closure - they have killed 90% of all that is good in gaming, and have their sights set on the remaining 10%.

No place left in gaming for originality is there? As soon as a little developer has a good idea Activision swoops in and turns them into sequel spitting coding monkeys.
