Activision: hardware sales decline is PS2's fault |

Hardware sales have not been doing so hot. Unfortunate, but overall sales are pointing down south right now. There are many possible factors - the economy, the end of the holiday splurge, heck, even warring fanboys. But if you ask Activision, it's none of the above. According to them, it's all the PS2's fault.
"In 2009, total retail software sales in the US and Europe were down ten per cent due mainly to steep declines in PS2 software sales," said Mike Griffith, CEO of Activision Publishing. "...as publishers continue to lessen their exposure to the platform, and lower cache rates for the casual consumer, including declines in higher priced peripheral-based games."
He explains that it's because they've steered clear of the PS2 that they're not affected by the sales slump. "We expect that the PS2 segment will again decline significantly and that software for the DS and PSP handhelds will also be down this year," he said. "Overall, our exposure to the PS2 and handheld markets are minimal, as they are projected to be less than ten per cent of our revenues in 2010."

It says so right there. Its only natural that PS2 software sales decline, as gamers move on to newer systems. Come on, system is 10 years old already. Distributors that rely heavy on PS2 games are gonna see a steadily increasing drop in revenue. It is pretty obvious.

they're talking about other companies that rely on the ps2 for a huge chunk of their revenue. activision makes less than 10% of their money from ps2 stuff so they are relatively unaffected.

When was the last time activision released a good game?
1982?

If they stopped the PS2 and put BC back into the PS3 then they would sell a lot more PS3s than they are doing already.
The PS2 was good for its time but that time has now passed so $ony, drop it and move on to the PS3. It looks like the PS3 is about to be hacked and when backups can be played on it then watch the sales increase.
I think thats the 2 things that will keep the PS3 afloat, BC and backups.

PS2 is still selling a lot. PS2 is a classic and it will be the number one selling console for A LONG TIME! Screw Activision!
