In focus: The Alchemy Profession |
Ó
Of the 12 professions in World of Warcraft, Alchemy, is considered as one of the most useful. This is especially true if it is partnered with Herbalism. A recent post by Steven R on EZ Articles points out the common reasons for the popularity of Alchemy.
He stated that Alchemy increases the survivability of your character. The main reason for this is the ability alchemists have to brew/craft potions that can instantly heal a substantial amount of your health and mana. This boost in health and mana can be very beneficial in battles against bosses. You can keep you tanks alive and your nukers well stocked with enough Mana to finish the job. The potions can also save your skin against gankers, and maybe allow you to dish out some payback given the right circumstances.
Another advantage that Alchemy grants is the buffs they can bestow through their potions. These stat-increasing brews can, as Steven said, make you character seem two to three levels higher. The benefits this brings a player when power leveling cannot be overstated as mobs will be easier to handle, thus making leveling easier.
Of course becoming a practitioner of Alchemy may sound appealing after those two points, there are other things to consider. A main problem of Alchemy is the fact that it won't make much money. You can't expect to make much cash from brews unlike Mining, Skinning, and Tailoring. However, given the second point, others may be thinking that they can kill more so that means more loot. Yes, that's true, but consider the investment in making the potions needed to buff yourself up.
The Alchemy profession can be very appealing, but you'll have to decide whether this is one of the two professions you will select for you character. After all you only get two primary professions, so choose wisely.

If you gather the mats yourself, you can sell them on AH for 5-100g some flasks are wanted, but the work for it is pretty hard.
It barely costs me anything because I can grind for the mats myself and usually people come with the mats.... I don't receive much fee but that's something I can live with
Having major protection pots for several mobs/bosses in raids is highly appreciated and if you don't have the mats yourself you can always let people grind for them
I 100% disagree, you can buy about any potions you would need from AH. If best if you have a gathering skill and just buy whatever you need. Other then the BOP flasks you can find about any thing you need most of the time and is not worth the cost or time when you can just buy them.
So very true. Get a true money making proffession and then buy those pots.
i.e.: It's like saying a business man can't eat well because he's no cook.
