Champions Online lifetime subscription gets second wind |

If you missed out on the Lifetime subscription offer by Cryptic Games for Champions Online, you'll now be getting your second chance. Cryptic has now reactivated the said option, although this time, it's about a hundred bucks more than when it was originally launched.
Originally, the lifetime subscription was being offered at US$ 200. This second reactivation, however, pegs at US$ 299. The price increase is justified anyway, what with the new costume sets, eight character slots, VIP room access, an exclusive costume piece, "Vanguard" perk and more.
Here's what you have to realize, though. That US$ 299 cost for the lifetime subscription translates to about two years of monthly payments, given that the monthly subscription currently stands at US$ 14.99. If you get it now, therefore, you'd have paid in bulk what you would have paid all the way through late 2012. Of course, given that it's a lifetime subscription, you're basically free to play the game for free even beyond that date.
Sounds like a good deal, right? Maybe so. The only suspicious catch to all this is that by 2011, a free-to-play option is set to be launched for Champions Online. So if you look at it from an economic standpoint, it's not really prudent to blow away US$ 300 when a cheaper alternative is just right around the corner.
Then again, the free-to-play option will undoubtedly have some restrictions on your enjoyment as compared to if you get the lifetime subscription. So at the end of the day, if it's convenience and guarantee you want, then maybe the US$ 299 will still be worth it.
