Spirit Jailbreak for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch released

Great news iPhone fanatics, Comex has released a new jailbreak for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Simply called Spirit, the untethered jailbreak works on Apple's handheld devices on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2.

Developer's note:

What's Spirit?

Spirit is an untethered jailbreak for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch on the latest firmwares.
Spirit is not a carrier unlock.
If you currently are using a tethered jailbreak, you have to restore to use Spirit. Do not upgrade if you use an unlock on an iPhone 3G or 3GS. (You can, however, restore to 3.1.2 if you have SHSH blobs for that version.)

Requirements

Any iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch on firmware 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2.
An activated device: one not stuck on the Connect to iTunes or Emergency Call screen.
Any version of iTunes 9 (including 9.1.1).
Syncing with iTunes before trying this is highly recommended. (An issue has been reported where Spirit deletes the photos on the device. I will investigate this; in the meantime, please make sure your photos are backed up.)

Note: On iPad, all this is still sort of beta. Some packages in Cydia, not designed for iPad, might screw up your system and require you to restore. Be careful. (And no, Cydia's appearance is not final.)

Update (May 3): I've updated the jailbreak tool. It no longer deletes photos (sorry!) and should resolve the issue with error code c0000005. (If you still get that error with the new version, try setting compatibility mode to Windows 95.)

I didnt think tethered or not would be such a big deal. but all you need is a homebrew to crash while away from your home, and all off a sudden your phone is worthless. I was starting to worry about this summer when we can be away for a few days.

This came out just in time. I ended up having to upgrade to 3.1.3 since running this with the tehered JB and NOT having done a restore gets it stuck on infinite loop.

everything worked out great in the end though

ehh im still waiting for the unlock have this 3gs 16gb iphone that i cant even use an all i hear is how its been unlocked but there waiting so im screwed in the mean time

Yeah, this jailbreaks ALL iPod touches and iPhones, regardless of what model and what firmware, well firmwares 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2. at least. Oh, and don't do this if you have a tethered device, restore first, then Jailbreak it.

It works with ALL iPod Touch's ALL iPhones (Jailbreak only NO unlocking) and the iPad. So your sweet with this. Trust me, I have jailbroken 2 iPods with this and it was fast and easy :)

thankx for that comex and friends. worked like a charm. just plug it in and hit jailbreak and within 10 to 15 seconds it was done. this should keep me busy now until my ps3 gets blown open by geohotz. Thx again.

might be some issues restoring from my backup but i dont mind!

anyone else experiencing faster battery drain times since using this unlock? I just wonder if its something I installed thats draining it, or if its something in the jailbreak?

i have a ipod 3g, version 3.1.3 and it's like NOTHING seems to be working for me. even spirit. i looked at countless videos on youtube to help me with it but NOTHING works. spirit encounters "dl.exe stopped working" i have no idea what that is or how to fix it but it's fucking annoying me already that i can't jailbreak my ipod when it seems to work for pretty much everyone else
