Just no. On screen controls are not the future, even accelerating in racing games can be annoying. And why are the graphics worse than the Gamecubes?! Isn't the iPad more powerful than the Wii?

It looks crap because it's just the iPhone game in a higher resolution. The iPhone version wasn't great to begin with thanks to it being a port of a game released on weaker cell phones in Japan.

It doesn't even have the full game in there, it just skips huge chunks of levels/story. It's as if they were running out of time to make the game so they just quickly did a few levels from later in the game and then shipped it.

it got over 200,000 preorders within the first hour when preorders were opened, and it sold over 700,000 within 12 hours of its release.

This shitty product seems to be doing pretty well.

It's Apple, of course it's going to sell. The Apple fanboys alone are enough to keep this alive. From all fanboys, they're worst, because they would buy anything, and I mean ANYTHING if it comes form Apple.
Steve Jobs could shit on their face and they would even pay for it.
Also, they are the most robust when it comes to proven facts. You could say 64MB is more than 32MB and they would still try to convince you from the opposite.

Looks decent, but the console versions beat out this version by a mile easily.

for $13, you can almost buy the GC or PS2 version of the game... Hell you can probably get a used copy for that price... Apple has created a new line of netbooks, the full touch screen tablet (which has been done... kind of), we're going to see companies go nuts with them in the near future.
