Valve boss Gabe Newell intends to bring back the scares to Half-Life, the latest issue of Edge revealed. The interview also stated that the studio wants to broaden the game's "emotional palette".

"I feel like we've gotten away from genuinely scaring the player more than I'd like," said Newell, "and it's something we need to think about, in addition to broadening the emotional palette we can draw on."

As for what he thinks will scare players the most, Newell had an answer ready: "The death of their children. The fading of their own abilities."

All they need to do is to show a picture of Gabe at all somewhere in the game. His ugly looks scare the crap out of me, at least.

what do they mean, HL 1 never really gave me chills

however HL 2 youd could feel something whenever you turned the corner and had to run into a building before the striders (i think thats what you call them) saw you

Really? I'm not a big horror fan. I actually don't like being scared or surprised. HL2 + the episodes were awesome, but the zombies and headhumpers still creep me out. :sigh:

Half-Life 3: "Fading Abilities" - Gordon spends the entire game in a hospital bed, unable to control his bowel movements.

Really, I still get creeped out when the lights dim and all I hear is that really fast zombie thing somewhere in the dark and my flashlight is recharging.

"We don't go to Ravenholm.." Anyone?

I disagree.
The only reason Orange box sucked on PS3 compared to the 360 predecessor, was because it was handed over to EA to have the PS3 version complete. Nothing wrong with that, however EA slapped it together and didnt remove the bugs.

Now when they FINALLY get around to making Episode 3, they need to actually work on it. Not slap it together.
They would make more money going multi-platform instead of whoring themselves out to just 1 platform and a PC.

Regardless of where it comes to, Ill be buying it. I just strongly encourage PS3 Development.

Me too. The ps3 standards are too high nowadays for half lives.

Ravenholm... I'm halfway though another play through after a long time, and that place scared the hell out of me when the whining of them sprinting zombies comes around.

If they focused on a complete new sound board, put some more background music in, the games immersion will increase. Physics and a good storyline needs good soundtrack.

"I feel like we've gotten away from genuinely scaring the player more than I'd like,"

... maybe because you haven't been making games like Half Life recently. Please your fans by making another one. Problem solved :-)

You guys are really getting annoying complaining about Valve's PS3 support. I love my PS3 and use it daily, but Valve games are better on the PC anyways. There's so much more that you can do with them that you can't do on the consoles.

everyone doesn't have a gaming PC, so it would be nice if valve (or EA) would bring this to ps3.

If people don't complain, how is it going to change? At this point I think it is safe to say that one of the best ways they could scare us again is to say that it is going to be a PS3 exclusive.

Half Life brought some very interesting characters and revolutionized how symbolic characters have been delivered.

G-Man is more than just a haunt in a cheap hollywood esque script. As the story progresses and we see more and more of this mysterious man throughout Gordon eyes. Looking at his gangly face and ever present brief case we began to question Gordons sanity, or at least the reality he lives in.

Is G-Man representative of Gordon's career, or is he a symbol of a high caliber? G-Man symbolizes the pressing blank "business man". Neither beats nor human G-Man is freed from morals, ever pressing his human counter part into depravity in the name of money.

i own both PS3 & 360. reason why i dont want to see it on the ps3. is because gabe said the ps3 is a waste of time. so, thats why i say this to him & the rest at valve.

FUCK OFF!!!

# well said!Guest 2010-04-06 05:33
i only have pc, but well said here! it is stupid for a game developer to consider a latest gen gaming system a waste of time. not to mention that ps3 is the most complex in terms of multimedia and the most powerfull in terms of hardware.
