Not everyone concurs in the belief that all games should have a multiplayer mode to fully enjoy their gaming experience. Take for example Erik Johnson of Valve. The project manager expressed his opinion in a recent interview, stating that "the analysis that every product needs to be a competitor in multiplayer, or an MMO, is incorrect."
He expounds on this statement by delving into his observation that a lot of people remain to prefer playing minus all the stress of a multiplayer feature. "[S]o I dn't see that changing," he said. "That isn't to say that single-player games are closed to innovation or shared experiences."
Furthermore: "That could just mean that you want to be able to chat with other people who are playing through the same part of the game as you, or the fans can write commentary nodes in the game and everyone can experience those to take advantage of the fact that there is a huge community of people that want to interact with each other."

Story based games, no need for MP, action games almost always need it. For kids.
