Valve is developing DotA 2 |

Defense of the Ancients, or DotA for short, is a mix of RTS, action, and team gameplay modded from Blizzard's WarCraft III. It maintains a large and very active community of players online, with its latest map released just yesterday. Seeing an opportunity, Valve Corporation is now developing a sequel to the highly successful game.
DotA is no stranger to clones and inspiring other games - Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends are among the most prominent, with the old DotA developers having a hand in them. Valve, however, is looking to make an actual sequel to the popular game, describing it as "a massive sequel for one of the most played games in the world."
According to GameInformer, the sequel will remain faithful to the core gameplay - three lanes, auto creep spawns, heroes, and emphasis on team play. Graphics will be upgraded but will follow the same style as the original. There will also be Steamworks-based Achievements to earn based on your actions within the community.
Other details, like the heroes, the items, and the delicate down-to-decimal balance between heroes and abilities are still in discussion.
Lead DotA developer, IceFrog, was hired last year to aid in the development of the sequel. Don't worry, he's still working with the original, releasing v6.69 just yesterday.

I dont think he can keep them as they are Blizzard's copyrighted items. It might only ressemble them tho
