A group of hackers have reportedly cracked Ubisoft's highly controversial "always on" DRM system which requires constant internet connection to play.

According to CNET, a hacking team that call themselves "Skid Row" have apparently removed the DRM in Assassin's Creed 2 by using a modified version of the game's executable file. Available now for download at various file-sharing sites, the modified game files, alongside a crack can be applied to a retail version of the game to bypass the DRM. Skid Row also left a note to Ubisoft

Nestled in the file, Skid Row left a little note to Ubisoft telling the company:

"Thank you Ubisoft, this was quiete [sic] a challenge for us, but nothing stops the leading force from doing what we do. Next time focus on the game and not on the DRM. It was probably horrible for all legit users. We just make their lifes [sic] easier."

Thank god. I legitly bought this game, and said fuck it. I need this crack badly because the fact that I have to be constantly online with my laptop to play is ridiculous.

I hope that they get rid of this DRM. Work on new algorithms, just do something other than this shit ubi. I'm tired of it.

Good work skidrow, as always. Remember, cracks aren't just for pirating games, they can also be for fixing them.

Honestly , copy protection is useless in my opinion. Games always get cracked and this always on DRM just makes it hell for the people who actually bought AC II

Skidrow have a point. The DRM is painful! Constant online update.

Instead they could've optimized the game a little more. My friend has the retail version and i'm sure he will like this crack. I'll let him know

this security systems only piss off the legitimate customers, software protection Will NEVER work, the only way is integrate the ps3 security architectute to the Intel/AMD CPU´s and even if this happen, all the hackers in the world crack it in months

Just make gamers cheaper and people probably wont download if a PC game was $30 new for an online game I would buy it without second guess.

make the games cheaper then there are no more justifiable reasons to pirate. They would still make profit if the games were sold cheaper and they would probably reduce piracy

Its their own greed that is the cause of piracy

Not all games make a profit :S, and Assassins Creed isn't the only game ubisoft is making, so gotta accomadate to other losses, and staff and material costs and such, it's an expensive process -.-, $30 bux new wouldn't suffice for a game of this level, esp. with shareholders breathing down their backs lol

But they not only didn't lower the price... they raised the price. So, a horrible DRM scheme and for $10 more than the vast majority of AAA PC games?

I agree with lowering the price. Maybe only down to $40 or so, not $30 for AAA titles. Especially for the downloadable versions.

There is no such thing as "perfect protection" when ubisoft and others gonna realize this? Really, this just make costumers more pissed... I mean, "constant internet connection"? Yeah right,if by any chance my internet goes down i can't play the game... that sucks...
