StarCraft II

Blizzard has yet to officially announce the PC specs you need to run StarCraft II, but there have been various speculations and partial confirmations. They still haven't announced it, but perhaps these beta requirements will give PC gamers a pretty good idea.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Operating System
    • Windows XP / XP64 (Service Pack 3)
    • Windows Vista / Vista64 (service Pack 1)
    • Windows 7 Home Premium
  • Processor
    • Intel Pentium IV 1.3GHz
    • AMD XP 1500+
  • Memory
    • (Windows XP) 512mb
    • (Windows Vista) 1024mb
    • (Windows 7) 1024mb
  • Graphics
    • 3D graphics processor with Hardware Transform and Lighting with 32 MB VRAM such as an ATI Radeon 7200 or NVIDIA GeForce 2 class card or better
  • Hard Drive
    • 15Gb (of free space)
  • DirectX
    • DirectX9.0c

Recommended Requirements:

  • Processor
    • Intel Pentium D
    • AMD 64 X2
  • Memory
    • (Windows XP) 1024mb
    • (Windows Vista) 2048mb
    • (Windows 7) 2048mb
  • Graphics
    • 3D graphics processor with Vertex and Pixel Shader capability with 128 MB VRAM such as an ATI Radeon X1600 or NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT class card or better

In addition to the above hardware requirements, you must have:

  • a valid e-mail address and internet connection (for registration)
  • an active Broadband Internet connection (for Battle.net play)

Keep in mind that the specs outlined above are for the beta. The system requirements for the final product may be different. As you can tell by the requirements, the beta is geared towards Windows users only. Unfortunately, Mac users won't be getting into the beta unless they happen to have a Windows PC.

Gotta love Blizzard's penchant for keeping requirements as low as they can.

This would of actually run on my... 2-generation old computer. Well, I love that they did this, but... I don't know. I still have a few misgivings about the game.

Oh well, hoping I get BETA tester status.

shacknews says that Blizzard says that those are not an accurate account of the requirements, so you might want to note that somewhere.

This game has been hyped for 4 years now. I saw large amounts of gameplay literally like 3 years ago. I heard of a release date in 2008. It's 2010, and it is still nowhere near release. The original fans (such as myself) are in college or in the workforce now, with little time to spare on another addictive game.

I think they've lost a large portion of their ORIGINAL fanbase by waiting so long (Much like with Kingdom Hearts...)s. In the end I still don't see anything much more advanced than other games coming out everyday. What's taking them so long??

Blizzard wont release a shitty game, unlike practically every other company which could care less. Same with Valve, they are companies with integrity and they have the money to make an amazing experience.

Oh and pretty much every person in Korea is going to buy this game. Starcraft is a sport over there.

Blizzard has actually contacted Kotaku, and said that these are NOT the system specs for the game. They don't know how those specs ended up there, but say it looks like someone simply copied over the requirements for WOW. They also said that when they do release the specs it will be on the FAQ or support site.
