Rumor: Steam headed to OS X?

osx15logoJust as a new version of Steam was launched, so did the rumors that it will be coming over to the OSX. Yes, the Windows-dominated program just might be heading to Apple's territory.

The rumor came about after a user in the Steam User's Forums posted an image of the OS X UI graphics in the Steam installation directory. Supplementing that suspicious image was an 'osx.menu' file placed inside the ~Steam\resource\Menus folder. This only happens to match standard OS X menus as well.

This could be just a form of wishlist, or it could be an indication of Valve's plans for Steam in the coming days ahead. We don't know for sure yet, so in the meantime, all you Apple users keep your fingers crossed if you want in on this bandwagon.

I think most have, and another reason to say goodbye to "Shit-dohes". Since OpenCL's release there isn't much to speculate anymore.

It may not happen now, but I can see the light in the near end of 2010.

It's nice and all but nowaday most Mac can run Windows using Bootcamp. I don't really see enough good reasons they want to port Steam over to OSX. Cider works; some games are very buggy. It's still not working as well as on Windows

This is great news. A lot of people don't realize that there are actually OS X exclusive games. None of them are killer apps but theres enough of a market there for it to exist. To this day I've never understood why the iTunes or App store haven't expanded to OS X apps like games and widgets and stuff to be downloaded through Apple's system. There would be no need for Steam on OSX if iTunes offered the same thing.

I don't think so. Valve hates Apple just like they hate the PS3.

Could be wrong, though, and it's really coming to Mac.
