No more downloadable full PS3 games for PSN "any time soon"

dilleHow long did it take for you to download Burnout Paradise from PSN? Naturally, the answers would vary depending on connection speeds, but overall, the answer would be: quite a long time. With that in mind, Sony will not be offering any more full PS3 games up for download from PSN - "at least, not any time soon".

By "full games" I don't mean those neat ten-dollar games or those PSOne Classics. Don't worry, Sony won't be cutting down on those. Full games would refer to the likes of Warhawk and the aforementioned Burnout Paradise, which PlayStation Senior VP Peter Dille described to be too big to be distributed digitally.

When asked by IGN about a bigger catalog of full PS3 games on PSN, the exec replied, "No, I don't think so - at least, not any time soon."

Part of the reason for that is broadband. We have an advantage with PlayStation 3 from an optical media perspective because a Blu-ray disc contains 50 gigs. Maybe this point will come at some time, but today to download 50 gigs of data before you play a game, you could probably go buy a car, bring it home, put your family into it, drive to the store by and bring the game home by the time you [could download it]. I think we're on the forefront of digital distribution.

Well, downloading games does have its advantages. But if you're gonna spend a day and a half downloading it, you might as well spend a few minutes to walk into a store and get it, not to mention save truckloads of space on our HDD.

personally, i think they
should have more full games like
burnout in PSN...
cuz me and my cousin almost got the same
games like MW2 soo we can play online togather but we bought 1 burnout via PSN...
soo when it comes to B-Ray we pay twice..
that why i want more games on PSN
soo we could have more games without
paying twice

You guys obviously never downloaded all 12 episodes of Siren. Whenever i format my hdd takes me about a week to download all my content; about 50 ps3 and psx games

I think you are exaggerating a little bit. I have burnout and siren, as well as about 30 PS1 and PS3 games. I start all my downloads at night when I go to bed, maybe takes a couple of nights, and it’s not like its taking up any useable bandwidth or any of my play time. Honestly, I don’t think it’s such a bad thing. I prefer discs, but downloads do seem to have better load times.

If people have a suitable connection speed and are fine with downloading full games, then they can.
However, I have a 2MB connection. So I don't bother.

Besides, you can purchase tangeable copies, which are cheaper than the PSN store price, anyway.

After spending about 8 hours to download Burnout Paradise and the add-ons for it I can honestly say I would stick to the disc games from this point onward if they were to continue doing downloadables of them.

I will be buying games on disc because there is NO incentive in waiting longer AND paying the same price for a game. Give me discounts Sony and I'll help you save on BDs!

This is stupid. The 360 does this with games on demand and old Xbox1 games too.

More full games is what the system needs; the likes of Socom, Warhawk, Burnout and the 9GB beast Siren. I'm sure if I ever bought MAG (an online only shooter), I'd play it more were it easily accessible on my hard drive than having to get a disc for it.
