Crysis 2 writer calls Modern Warfare 2 an "immense disappointment", praises Uncharted 2 |

Modern Warfare 2 was without a doubt a huge hit, but that doesn't mean everybody loved it. Take Crysis 2 writer Richard Morgan, for example. He thought the game was "disappointing". Another of last year's giants, the PS3-exclusive Uncharted 2, however, did earn a lot of praise from him.
"I thought Modern Warfare 2 was an immense disappointment," Morgan told CVG. "It was a massive stepdown from CoD4. What I thought when I played it was, 'Jesus guys, what have you been doing? You've not ramped anything up. The story is worse and the game doesn't really hang together, it's just a bunch of mission levels."
Morgan further explained his distaste for Modern Warfare 2's story by saying that it basically did all the things that bad storytelling does. "It made no sense. It was totally implausible. It doesn't resolve... I just think they were way too impressed with themselves and that's always a danger. It's just unfortunate."
The bestselling sci-fi author loved Naughty Dog's work on Uncharted 2, however. "Conversely, with Uncharted 2, those guys went back and looked at the first game. Everything that didn't work very well, they fixed or ramped up or did something with.
"They really took it to a new place and you can honestly say to people if you played the first game, the second one is the same but better. Modern Warfare 2 is the same but... way worse. And it cost more money."

That's not completely true. MW2 was my first PS3 game, so my KD ratio (if you look at the tables) is aweful, but I can't actually recall the last time I ever lost a Free For All, either.
I liked the killstreak system, but not the care packages. They're just stupid.

That point aside, the story is unintelligible. I still don't know what the story is about. The only thing I know is that because some undercover dude acted as a terrorist and was killed all hell broke loose.

but when you take the missions by themselves, i thought it was pretty good, it wasnt a good story but they werent bad missions (nice and cinematic)
However UC2 didnt suffer the same issues, it was good possibly not as immersive, (3rd person) but a brillant game, never really played UC1, but might pick it up soon
anyway i think the ps3, is really starting to get into its stride, i dont care much for xbox exclusives (although ive only played 30 mins worth of them)
just hope valve release half life for the ps3 (L4D is really a pc game), hate halo, gears of war (havnt played much but seems very rail like shooter)

Although I prefered the story of drakes fortune, nice twist at the end.
From what he's said crysis better be one hell of a f*3ing deeply immersive masterpiece

It didn't follow any guidelines you would expect a good story to do.
There were no rewards for your efforts, story wise.
No matter how hard you tried, you always failed, and the game kills off likeable characters, even right to the end.
To see a real storywriter say the exact things I thought was wrong with the game is quite encouraging, it means I'm not just another nutty filmmaker.

Why put 10 different levels? I find that too high. Also customizing classes is a pain in the butt because perks are not interchangeable which means you can only use one perk from each Tier.
Multiplayer mode is flawed further because covering from an enemy is pointless as people can shoot through walls. Ex; I was running and stopped to reload all my guns. I died. Because? A gun fight had led to the enemy killing my team mate along with me on the other side of the wall.
Uncharted 2 and Battlefield is better online, but I still play CoD time to time.

Perks are put in tiers to make your decisions harder
Bullets go through certain walls because... real bullets can go through walls?
Pro tip: unless you like being an easier target, don't stop while you reload your guns
MW2 does have many flaws, your points just suck.
