Contrary to what some of your friends might say, no, it's definitely not okay for you to pick up BioShock 2 without ever having laid your eyes on the original game. And you've got no excuse to pick it up now, too. What, Direct2Drive and Steam are offering it at a discounted rate. A very discounted rate. Like, free.

Here's how it works. BioShock 2 is being sold at a 10% discount for pre-orders. Now, along with that is a free copy of the original BioShock game.

See, we told you there's no excuse for you to jump headfirst into BioShock 2 without brushing up on BioShock 1. That just wouldn't be too smart a move.
