The PS3 hits the road, tours UK as non-gaming machine |

In Europe, the PlayStation 3 is gaining recognition as being more than just a gaming console, but also for being a home entertainment hub as well. The recent award that the PS3 bagged from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) is proof of that.With the reward in tow, the PS3 is scheduled to go on tour across the UK come the holidays. The "PlayStation 3 UK Tour" event is to start on October 1 and continue on until the end of December.
Sony's powerhouse will be hitting big places like the O2 Arena (OMG! The PS3 will have a concert?), shopping malls, universities, and even train stations.
The goal of this tour is to expose the consumers to the PlayStation 3's non-gaming functions. SCE UK trade marketing manager Rosemary Buahin states:
The main aim of the PS3 UK Tour is to showcase those capabilities which stretch beyond the realms of gaming to include HD pictures, music, photography, PlayStation Network and PSP compatibility. PlayStation 3 is a super-computer that fits naturally in the living room environment. With this in mind, we have created demonstration units which will allow consumers to freely experience the PS3 throughout the tour.
Specific details of events in certain locations are yet to be revealed. Maybe they'll be showing Blu-ray movies to college students. After all, EISA gave the award to the PS3 as the gadget of the year simply because of that: Blu-ray.

You know THIS is why the PS3 is not hat popular. Why the hell would you buy a GAMING console, only to have sony focus on other minute features. I mean, look at Wii- it's being marketed as a casual GAMING console, X360 is being marketed as a normal GAMING console more or less, Yet, sony refuses to focus on getting games and tries to do other things with this GAMING console.
oh and for the record, I like all 3 manufacturers.
The ps3 is not ONLY a GAMING console.. Thats the whole point. The wii and 360 are meant for gaming alone. The PS3 on the other hand is branching not only on gaming but other things.
And tell me this, would you rather take out all the NON-GAMING features out of the PS3 and make it only for gaming?
oh and for the record, your a dumbas5 if you dont understand that its not only for games anymore, just like a cell phone isnt only for phone calls anymore.

^ I dont understand why someone would complain about that but its the truth. PS3 can do games really good like we seen in Warhawk, resistance and other stuff (and the games coming in november), and it can do great media things too like were already seeing.
i'm not saying a thing...except that the ps3 will NOT be touring shopping malls in the UK because there are no such thing! we have shopping complexes, not bloody shopping 'malls'

Whilst I doubt this tour will have any effect on PS3 sales since most buy it on the basis of it being a games console, I wish Sony would cut the 'super-computer' BS. :|
Say it can be used as a computer and people would probably listen with interest, but say it's a super-computer and people automatically (and rightfully) become sceptical.
sooo.. u want the 360 and he wii like it is? for me.. more multimeia and more upgrades beter for me... thts why I like the PSP too... the PS3 needs to advertise it like everything, like a gaming maching because thats what it is... and like a lu ray player because thats what it is too... but... th PS3 is just the best meia center machine... now they need to be the best gaming console and need to focus more in that area... but the need to win the HD format war too... soooo

They should also do that here in the U.S. with lots of tour vehicles hitting many cities a long with news of a price cut. Many more people would buy one after seeing it in person with someone demonstrating all of the functions and showing it on huge 1080p screens. That would be pretty cool.
it was with alcom... just saying that the ps3 is not only a gaming machine.. and if they just advertise like a gaming machine they can lose the HD war because the most buyed blu ray machine is the PS3 too... sooo...
xbots are just piss their xbot can't keep up with just 1/10 of the PS3 speed.....all they can do is break the next day and can not keep up so therefore can not provide what the PS3 can to mass markets.
The PS2 did just fine being sold purely as a gaming machine. Me thinks they need to do that again. It's a game machine that can also do other things as a bonus.

Technically PS2 wasn't just a gaming machine it was also a DVD and Music player. While it did get marketed more as a game console it wasn't really one.
PS3 isn't just a gaming console, it more of an entertainment system. While i get what you mean it needs to be marketed for more than a game machine.
@alcom4x The marketing doesn't suck and sony is taking care of the games you little idiot. after christmas and into 2008 they will have over 200 titles and 120 are for Japan and U.S. So please stop being a fool, Sony PS3 has made more money in its first year than all PS consoles combined. I say its doing great.
