Sony stocks rise, Toshiba falls after Warner goes Blu-ray exclusive |
The new year brought about a startling new development to the format wars that may finally bring about its conclusion. We're talking about Warner Bros.' decision to go Blu-ray exclusive. Following this, Sony stocks at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rose.
Sony stocks saw a brief slump a few days ago, along with the stocks of other Japanese companies, due to some economical fluctuations. With Warner Bros. Entertainment's announcement however, Sony's stocks rose 0.9% in the market.
On the other side of the spectrum, stocks of one of the largest HD DVD backers, Toshiba, fell 2.5%, the lowest point it has seen in more than nine months. A spokesman for Toshiba expressed the company's disappointment with Warner Bros.' decision.
Will the format war finally draw to its conclusion? Check back for developments.

The Blu ray media has become the winners of the format war, and this one will last a life time. No more rivals no more competition, its Unbelievable. These fans have been waiting for long strenuous months on the Victor.
If anyone can guess who said this in the same way for(for something else) and what it was for, you get a free Internet Cookie. ;)
Whoever thought HD-DVD was going to win and professed it like an idiot:
1. Go suck a ****
2. Do more research next time.
3. Stop being a microsoft zombie.
I like Toshiba, but I don't go with them because of their name. ;D
I feel sorry for all the 360 users who constantly complained about the price of the PS3 and it having the Blu-Ray drive 'built in', and then went out and bought the HD-DVD external drive for an extra $100.
... oh, wait. I don't feel sorry for them at all.
Sucks to be them.
Definitely a great way to start the year for Sony.
Thats a good comapny! Who's a good company? Who's a good company!? YOU! You made a fine choice WB.
I think this is the first Sony format that actually got anywhere. I bet the president of Sony is dancing around in excitment screaming "OMJG OMJG OMJG! FINALLY AFTER ALL THOSE TONS OF FORMATS THAT FAILED ONE FINALLY SUCCEEDED!" lol
